Abstract:
Compositions with sodium carboxymethylcellulose and hydroxyethyl cellulose are provided for environmentally safe disposal of water-based latex and acrylic formulations. Improved methods for environmentally safe disposal of water-based latex and acrylic formulations are provided as well.
Abstract:
A discharge gate is provided for a gypsum slurry mixer, and includes a lower member having an inlet opening configured for receiving the slurry, and an outlet opening configured for delivering the slurry to a dispensing device. An upper member is attached to the lower member, at least one of the upper and lower members having at least one opening for accommodating insertion of an injection port for introducing the foam to the slurry. A cavity is configured for mixing the foam and slurry, and is defined by inner surfaces of the lower member and the upper member.
Abstract:
A mixing assembly includes a main flow conduit having an inlet end and an opposite outlet, a source of pressurized air at the inlet end, a container of stucco in fluid communication with the flow conduit, and a source of water in fluid communication with the flow conduit between the outlet and the container. The pressurized air draws stucco from the container into the flow conduit, and also draws water into the flow conduit to form an atomized slurry.
Abstract:
A deflection gauge configured for use with a floor test apparatus is provided. The gauge includes a housing, a string potentiometer mounted on the housing, and a channel extending from the housing and pivotably supporting a pivot beam. The pivot beam has a contact button at one end and an attachment point on an opposite end configured for receiving a string of the potentiometer. Deflection of the contact button due to floor sample weight stresses causes the attachment point to pivot and cause linear extension of the string, which is measured by the potentiometer.
Abstract:
Described herein is a composite board and a method of producing a composite board, the board having increased fire endurance. The board comprises a sheet having a thickness greater than about 0.014 inches, and a thermal conductivity of about 0.1 w/(m.k.) or less. The composite board can be part of a wall assembly comprising two boards defining an interior cavity, the sheet facing the interior cavity.
Abstract:
A method of making a rapid setting composition for cement boards is disclosed. Compositions including a hydraulic cement preferably portland cement, an alkali metal citrate such as tripotassium citrate, and a phosphate such as sodium trimetaphosphate, with optional gypsum, and no alkanolamine accelerant, and no fly ash based cement. An interaction between the alkali metal citrate and the phosphate increases the effectiveness of accelerating reactions of the portland cement without need for an alkanolamine accelerant, even in the presence of gypsum. This allows unexpected quick setting and increased early-age compressive strength without shrinkage in the cement board compositions.
Abstract:
A method of making a rapid setting lightweight homogeneous foamed fly ash based cementitious aggregate composition with improved compressive strength for products such as panels is disclosed. The method mixes fly ash, alkali metal salt of citric acid, foaming agent for entraining air, optional foam stabilizing agent, a calcium sulfate such as stucco or gypsum, and water. Compositions are also disclosed which include mixtures of fly ash, particularly Class C fly ash alone or in mixtures with Class F fly ash, alkali metal salts of citric acid, foaming agents, a calcium sulfate such as calcium sulfate dihydrate or hemihydrate and an optional portland cement.
Abstract:
An exterior sheathing cementitious panel which prevents water penetration and air leakage is provided. Methods for manufacturing exterior sheathing cementitious panels with a highly efficient integrated air/water barrier membrane are provided as well.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an emulsion of an internal paper size and a biocidal emulsifying agent, such as a cationic non-starchy quaternary ammonium compounds, that is introduced into a paper-making furnish to produce an anti-microbial paper. The antimicrobial paper is useful as facing for gypsum panels. A method of making the paper includes emulsifying the internal size with a biocide before introducing the size to the paper furnish. A method of making a microbial growth resistant gypsum panel that incorporates the antimicrobial paper is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A gypsum slurry is provided that includes calcium sulfate hemihydrate; water; a dispersant component comprising at least one of the following a comb-branched polymer with polyether side chains, naphthalene sulfonate-formaldehyde condensate or melamine sulfonate-formaldehyde condensate; a foaming agent; and a polycondensation component with three polycondensation repeating units. Also provided is a method for making a gypsum slurry with a foaming agent in which the ratio between the dispersant component and the polycondensation component is adjusted to control for the size of foam bubbles in the gypsum slurry. Gypsum products made from the gypsum slurry are provided and methods for making the products are provided as well.
