Abstract: An apparatus, method, and article of manufacture for transferring fluid contained in a syringe. The apparatus includes an airlock component having a cylindrical body with a first end, a second end, and a hollow tube disposed between the first end and the second end. An annular opening is located at the first end of the cylindrical body. The hollow tube includes a gas inlet aperture and a gas outlet aperture. The hollow tube also includes an inwardly-facing airtight material coupled to the interior surface of the hollow tube, and a septum coupled to the second end of the cylindrical body. The method includes transferring fluid from one container to a second container using the apparatus. The article of manufacture includes the apparatus, a syringe, and a needle.

Abstract: A flame-retardant vanillin-derived cross-linker, a process for forming a flame-retardant polymer, and an article of manufacture comprising a material that contains the flame-retardant vanillin-derived cross-linker are disclosed. The flame-retardant vanillin-derived cross-linker can be synthesized from vanillin obtained from a bio-based source, and can have at least one phosphoryl or phosphonyl moiety with phenyl, allyl, epoxide, propylene carbonate, or thioether substituents. The process for forming the flame-retardant polymer can include reacting a diol vanillin derivative and a flame-retardant phosphorus-based molecule to form the flame-retardant vanillin-derived cross-linker, and binding the flame-retardant vanillin-derived cross-linker to a polymer. The material in the article of manufacture can be flame-retardant, and contain flame-retardant vanillin-derived cross-linkers. Examples of materials that can be in the article of manufacture can include resins, plastics, adhesives, polymers, etc.

Abstract: A fully integrated, low maintenance, manually operated beverage container compacting system featuring a free-standing, user powered, enclosed, beverage container compactor and storage receptacle. The compactor includes a self retracting puncture mechanism to release pressure due to air and liquids in sealed containers prior to their compacting. The storage system includes double trap doors with gaskets to create a sealed storage receptacle that reduces odors. A first top trap door includes a rubber gasket to prevent liquids from being expelled out of the compactor; and a bottom trap door is configured for capturing escaped liquids. The bottom trap door is actuated into an open state at an end of a crushing stroke to drop the container into the storage receptacle after captured liquids have drained into a liquid capture container for improved cleanliness. A self reset mechanism renders the system to an initial state for a next user after compacting.
