摘要: A device for maintaining a plication within a hollow organ. The device includes an elongated member having distal and proximal ends. The distal end is for insertion into a body cavity. The elongated member has an end effector at its distal end. The end effector has an outer cylinder having at least one opening, and an inner cylinder having at least one opening. The inner cylinder is at least partially disposed within the outer cylinder and the cylinders are rotatable with respect to each other. The end effector is detachable from the elongated member such that it can remain within the body cavity.

摘要: A marking apparatus includes a selectively inflatable balloon. The balloon includes an external lumen adapted for connection to a vacuum source. The external lumen includes ports for creating a vacuum at the ports sufficient to draw walls of the gastric cavity into contact with the external lumen. The balloon is further provided with RF energy delivery devices. In accordance with an alternate embodiment, a marking apparatus includes an elongated, hollow body, the hollow body including a proximal end and a distal end. The hollow body includes at least one suction trough in which a plurality of holes is disposed to draw suction on tissue. The at least one suction trough extends along a substantial portion of the hollow body as it extends from its distal end to its proximal end.

摘要: A method for inserting an instrument through a natural orifice. The instrument has a low profile orientation and a deployed orientation which is larger than the size of the natural orifice through which it is to be inserted. The method is achieved by coupling the instrument to an endoscope and placing the instrument in its low profile orientation, inserting the endoscope and the instrument through a natural orifice to a target position within a body while the instrument is in its low profile orientation, actuating the instrument to it is deployed orientation, and returning the instrument to its low profile orientation and withdrawing the instrument from the body through the natural orifice.

摘要: A device for creating a plication within a hollow organ. The device has an elongated member with distal and proximal ends. The distal end is for insertion into a body cavity. The elongated member has an end effector at its distal end. The end effector includes an outer cylinder having at least one opening in its cylindrical wall. The end effector also has an inner cylinder having at least one opening in its cylindrical. The inner cylinder is at least partially disposed within the outer cylinder such that the apertures can at least partially overlap. In addition, the cylinders are rotatable with respect to each other. In addition, the device includes a tubular channel running through the elongated member which is in fluid communication with the end effector. The channel has a vacuum source attached at its proximal end.

摘要: An inflatable medical instrument for tissue damage in gastric reduction surgery includes a main chamber composed of a biocompatible material capable of being selectively inflated. The medical instrument also includes a longitudinally extending tab member secured to an outer surface of the main chamber, a series of suction holes are formed along the tab member and an electrode is mounted on the tab member. The present invention also provides a method for forming a tissue junction used in defining a gastric pouch including damaging opposed tissue layers, apposing the tissue layers and fastening the tissue layers to allow the tissue layers to heal together.

摘要: An endoscopic apparatus shaped and dimensioned for passage through an orifice in the body includes a scope attachment member coupled to an endoscopic instrument, and a connection member attaching the scope attachment member to the endoscopic instrument. The connection member has an insertion orientation sized for passage through the orifice and a deployed orientation too large to pass though the orifice. When the connection member is in its insertion orientation the endoscopic instrument is positioned closely adjacent an exterior of an endoscope for low profile insertion of the endoscopic instrument through an orifice, and when the connection is in its deployed orientation the endoscopic instrument is spaced from the endoscope to improve visibility.

The suture housing has an open position and a closed position, and the needle can be removed from the suture housing when in the open position.
