摘要： A glass substrate for a magnetic recording medium has a textured surface having numerous grooves extending in the circumferential direction of the glass substrate. The average roughness of the textured surface is 0.4 nm or less. The number of the grooves is 15 or more per micrometer. The average depth of the grooves is 2 nm or less. The grooves are formed by mechanical texturing using a texturing liquid applied between a texturing tape and the surface of a blank glass substrate rotating. The texturing liquid is an aqueous dispersion of fine diamond abrasive grains.

The resonance-frequency measuring method comprises the measuring step of applying sine-wave oscillations at different frequencies one by one to the mechanism unit, and counting the number of times information reproduced upon application of each of the sine-wave oscillations differs from information indicating an aimed location, and the resonance-frequency determining step of determining the resonance frequency according to the number of times counted in the measuring step.

摘要： A method of texturing includes the process of enhancing the hydrophilicity on the surface of a substrate for a recording medium. A texture is then formed on the surface of the substrate with an aqueous slurry in which abrasive grains are dispersed. The surface of the substrate is expected to exhibit an enhanced property of wetness to the aqueous slurry. The aqueous slurry easily spreads over and contacts the surface of the substrate even from the initial stage of the process. The abrasive grains in the aqueous slurry are allowed to uniformly spread over the surface of the substrate. Establishment of the texture can be started on the surface of the substrate at an earlier stage of the process. Even with the abrasive grains of a smaller grain size, a fine and uniform texture of a predetermined surface roughness can be established on the surface of the substrate within a shortened period. Increase in the operating period of abrasion can remarkably be suppressed irrespective of the reduced size of the abrasive grains.

摘要： A disk reproducing apparatus with a plurality of disks arrayed and held therein selects a desired disk for reproduction from the arrayed disks. The disk reproducing apparatus includes an insertion slot which defines an insertion executable position, a disk holding device including a plurality of disks inserted through the insertion slot by arraying the disks in a direction perpendicular to main surfaces of the disks, the disk holding device being movable in a direction of arrangement of the disks, a disk reproducing device having upper and lower surfaces opposing in the direction of arrangement of the disks, the disk reproducing device being movable in the direction of arrangement of the disks, and reproducing a disk to be reproduced at a reproduction executable position at which the upper surface faces the disk to be reproduced. When a disk is to be inserted, the disc reproducing device is placed at a position where the lower surface is positioned near to the insertion executable position in the direction of arrangement of the disks. When a disk is to be reproduced, the disk reproducing device is placed at a position where the distance of the upper surface from the insertion executable position in the direction of arrangement of the disks is smaller than its distance at the time of insertion of a disk. Thereby the reduction in size of the apparatus as a whole and a smooth execution of the reproduction operation are attained.

Accordingly, the processing solution which includes the scrapings smoothly flows into the discharge pipe.
