摘要: A structure having a cavity or enclosed space is fabricated by forming a recessed region in a surface of a substrate, and providing a first layer adjacent the recessed region. A liquid mixture including first and second components is supplied to the recessed region. The first component has a higher chemical affinity to the first layer than the second component such that the first component separates from the second component and adheres to an edge portion of the first layer. The substrate may then be heated to remove the second component from the recessed region through evaporation. As a result, the first component remains as a second layer adhering to the edge portion of the first layer and covering the recessed region, thereby defining a cavity or enclosed space with the recessed region. Unique structures including such cavities may be employed to realize a capacitor having a fluid, as opposed to solid, dielectric material, in order to increase the capacitance of the capacitor. Alternatively, such cavities may confine the flow of gases within narrow grooves of a substrate to realize a fuel cell having reduced size.

摘要: A data reuse method with level C+ for block matching motion estimation is disclosed. Compared to conventional Level C scheme, this invention can save large external memory bandwidth of motion estimation. The main idea is to reuse the overlapped searching region in the horizontal direction and partially reuse the overlapped searching region in the vertical direction. Several vertical successive current macroblocks are stitched, and the searching region of these current macroblocks is loaded, simultaneously. With the small overhead of internal memory, the reduction of external memory bandwidth is large. By case studies of H.264/AVC, the level C+ scheme can provide a good trade-off between the conventional Level C and D scheme.

摘要: A method for detecting and isolating serial bus faults. Whether any bus fault has occurred on a serial bus coupled to a device through an isolator is detected. When a bus fault occurs on the serial bus, the isolator is controlled to isolate the device from the serial bus. Whether the device fails is then determined. When the device does not fail, the isolator is controlled to couple the device to the serial bus. When the device fails, an alert is issued, and the isolation of the devicecontinues.

摘要: The present invention provides an optical head with a single or multiple sub-wavelength light beams, which can be used in arenas such as photolithography, optical storage, optical microscopy, to name a few. The present invention includes a transparent substrate, a thin film, and a surface structure with sub-wavelength surface profile. The incident light transmits through the transparent substrate, forms a surface plasma wave along the sub-wavelength aperture located within the thin film, and finally re-emits through spatial coupling with the sub-wavelength profile of the surface structure. As the coupled re-emitting light beam or light beams can maintain the waist less than that of the diffraction limit for a few micrometers out of the surface with sub-wavelength profile in many cases, this invention can have applications ranging from micro or nano manufacturing, metrology, and manipulation by using light beams with waist smaller than the diffraction limit.

摘要: A system and a methodology to improve the end-user quality of service both in terms of response time and reliability for the transport of in-call DTMF signals in wireless systems, particularly in geostationary mobile satellite systems. The methodology encompasses several techniques to provide acceptable end-to-end quality of service for DTMF. A technique is applicable for transport of DTMF in the wireless subscriber to network direction, where DTMF digits are carried in the form of an out-band message. The central part of the technique is to allow multiple key presses in the same message, thereby increasing efficiency and throughput in long-delay environment. Another technique utilizes the vocoder's functionality to carry DTMF in-band, thereby reducing system complexity. The scheme makes the use of an integrated DTMF detector which can classify a given frame of signal into several classes so that the DTMF encoded packet can carry a unique pattern across the air-interface to the voice decoder at AT, which is capable of identifying the pattern. Another technique pertains to the use of a message based DTMF transport between two-ATs on a separate logical channel with a unique Service Access point Identifier (SAPI) providing guaranteed service for DTMF transport in an AT-AT call.
