Disclosed is an electroluminescent conjugated polymer end-capped with organometallic complex. The end-capped conjugated polymer may have a partial structure represented by the following formula (I): wherein M is a metal selected from the group consisting of Ir, Os, Pt, Pb, Re, and Ru; R1 and R2 may be the same or different and each represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent; Ar1 and Ar2 may be the same or different and each represent a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group containing nitrogen for forming a coordination bond with M; and n is an integer of from 20 to 50. The end-capped conjugated polymers of the present invention may be used as an electroluminescent medium in a light-emitting element or a light-emitting device.

This invention provides an organic electroluminescent element (hereinafter referred to as an organic EL element) utilizing phosphorescence which shows improved luminous efficiency and assured driving stability and has a simple structure. The organic EL element comprises an anode, organic layers containing a hole-transporting layer, a lightemitting layer and an electron-transporting layer and a cathode piled one upon another on a substrate with the hole-transporting layer disposed between the light-emitting layer and the anode and the electron-transporting layer disposed between the light-emitting layer and the cathode. The light-emitting layer contains a pyridyl phenoxy zinc complex represented by the following general formula (I) as a host material and an organic metal complex containing at least one metal selected from Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Re, Os, Ir, Pt and Au as a guest material. In various aspects, the present inventions also provide photochromic articles comprising said films, methods of forming said films, and methods of manufacturing photochromic articles using said films. In various embodiments, provided are molecular films where the photoconversion between configurations of the photochromic molecule is substantially reversible by irradiation with light. In various embodiments, provided are films where the photoconversion is substantially irreversible by irradiation with light.
