Abstract:
This invention provides the framework of a security system that is property specific as well as area specific. The invention includes a distributed software controlled security system that monitors and assesses the status of individual property items and conventional area security devices within a secured area. The activation of an alarm and the action taken in response to the alarm are determined by the state of the secured area, the state of the individual property item, and rules associated with each state or combination of states. Depending upon the capabilities of the individual property items, or appliances, and the area security devices, the security capabilities of this invention are distributed amongst a variety of appliances. In a preferred embodiment, the communication of messages and signals among the components of the system is in accordance with existing or proposed standards, such as HAVi and Home API, thereby allowing interoperability among components of varying vendors.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for easily setting a macro of a programmable remote control using a PC. The apparatus setting a macro of a remote control including: an input unit, inputting data or commands; a display unit displaying the data input by the user and/or data that is able to be selected by the user; a data transceiver receiving data from the remote control and transmitting data to the remote control; a memory storing device names assigned by the user and a data file of device function control commands received from the remote control via the data transceiver; and a controller displaying on the display unit a list of the device names and the commands included in the data file stored in the memory and setting a command selected from the command list as a macro command corresponding to a macro name.
Abstract:
A remote control uses IR (infrared) commands to control various consumer appliances made by various manufactures. The remote control is low-cost, consumer-friendly, programmable, has its own graphical display so it does not interfere with a TV or other viewing screen, and is capable of interacting with the internet or other data source to provide a rich set of functionality.
Abstract:
An apparatus for downloading control frequency code data, a multi-purpose remote controller, and a mobile communication terminal used as the same, for downloading control frequency code data with respect to each of electronic equipment sets, loaded in a server, and automatically setting each to perform a remote control function. An apparatus for downloading control frequency code data further comprising a server in which control frequency code data with respect to each of the electronic equipment sets is loaded, a communication terminal for downloading the control frequency code data with respect to each of the electronic equipment sets loaded in the server through the Internet, and a multi-purpose remote controller for executing a predetermined program to automatically set the frequency code data with respect to each electronic equipment set, provided by the communication terminal, thereby performing a remote control function corresponding to the control frequency code.
Abstract:
A state-based remote control system for providing efficient and simple operation of a plurality of electronic devices as a coordinated system based upon an overall task. The state-based remote control system includes a housing, a keypad in communication with an electronic system contained within the housing, and a communication device in communication with the electronic system for communicating with external electronic devices. The electronic system monitors the buttons selected by a user to determine the state of all external electronic devices that are to be controlled. When the user selects a task (e.g. watch television), the electronic system automatically determines the actions required to achieve the desired task based upon the current state of the external electronic devices. After the task has been fulfilled, the electronic system updates the data to reflect the modified state of the external electronic devices.
Abstract:
A method wherein a programmable remote control (PRC) is programmed from a configuration file over a network. A user configuration file comprises data associating the user configuration file with a unique user and information about devices that a user desires to control with a PRC. A service provider uses the device records to find the appropriate remote control instruction set for each device to be controlled by the PRC. Upon notification of a change in the devices that a user desires to control, the service provider would update the user configuration file. Optionally, the service provider would not only program the PRC, but using the PRC would assist the user in programming each device that is controlled by the PRC (to the extent such devices are programmable).
Abstract:
A system and method for displaying an electronic program guide and for remotely controlling the recording functionality of an appliance. A user registers with a Web site to enable the downloading of an electronic program guide (nullEPGnull) to a portable device. The downloaded and displayable EPG includes a listing of programs from which the user may select a program of interest. In response to receiving input from the user requesting that the program be recorded, data indicative of the recording request is stored in the portable device. Then, when it is determined that the portable device is able to establish communication with the appliance (either directly or via an intermediate PC), the data indicative to the recording request is provided to the appliance to effect the recording of the program.
Abstract:
A remote controller apparatus has a controller body, which is provided with annularly disposed display devices displaying as images operating buttons for the purpose of executing functions of a remotely controlled apparatus, and which is further provided with a display device at the center of the annularly disposed display devices. Operating switches are provided below each of the display devices, a transparent shuttle ring is disposed over the annularly disposed display devices, and a transparent center button is provided over the display device at the center. The shuttle ring is caused to rotate, and if necessary operating buttons displayed by each of the display devices are switched to other operating buttons. By doing this, it is possible to assign images of various operating buttons for executing functions of a remotely controlled apparatus to the display devices of the remote controller apparatus, which display this operating buttons, and also possible for a user to operate operating buttons without being aware of which operating buttons correspond to which operations. Additionally, the need to assign more than one operation to one button is eliminated, and it is possible to avoid an excessive increase in the number of operating buttons.
Abstract:
A thermostat and remote control apparatus, that is made up of a housing, an interface disposed in the housing, a plurality of icons on the interface, which correspond to a set of controls for items that can be controlled by the apparatus, a display screen, which indicates the current temperature setting, time and date, a recessed program and enter button that allows a user to enter temperature settings to a thermostat, a clear button for deleting any entered information, an electric cradle that is used to recharge the apparatus, a universal serial bus port (USB) that is used to connect a computerized device to the apparatus, an RS-232 port to standardize a transmission of serial data between any devices and the apparatus and a microcontroller for processing information and data. The apparatus specifically utilizes infrared and radio frequency technology for transmitting and receiving information from various items.
Abstract:
A simply structured remote control transceiver that stores various data supplied is disclosed. A data communication system employing the same transceiver is also disclosed. The remote control transceiver includes a signal transceiver, a controller, an operating section, a memory and a display. The signal transceiver transmits/receives radio wave or an infrared signal to/from a television receiving apparatus (TVRA). The controller is coupled with a signal transceiver, an operating section, a memory and a display. The memory stores data sent from the TVRA via the signal transceiver. Responsive to an operation through the operating section, the display displays data read out from the memory. The data communication system includes this remote control transceiver, the TVRA and a base station that handles data.
