Processor-implemented methods and systems for visually-assisted mixing of audio using a spectral analyzer are disclosed. The system calculates and displays a spectral view for each track in an arrangement in a multi-track view. A user can then request modification of the spectral view. In response to this request for modification, the system automatically adjusts associated mixing parameters for the modified track so that the spectral output of the track substantially matches the user-requested modified spectral view. This allows a user to visually mix an arrangement by imputing a desired spectral result and having the program make the changes necessary to achieve it.

The object of the invention is to switch between plural sets of waveform data at desired timing while preventing noise. In response to an instruction for switching from a currently reproduced set of waveform data to another set of waveform data, either a switching position in the other set of waveform data or a switching in the currently reproduced set of waveform data is set as end timing for ending the reproduction of the currently reproduced set, with reference to switching position information of the two sets. If the switching position in the currently reproduced set is present within a 50 msec time range before a switching position in the other set that is present immediately after the switching instruction, the switching position in the currently reproduced set is set as the ending; if not, the switching position in the other set is set as the end timing.

A voice analysis method includes a variable extraction step of generating a time series of a relative pitch. The relative pitch is a difference between a pitch generated from music track data, which continuously fluctuates on a time axis, and a pitch of a reference voice. The music track data designate respective notes of a music track in time series. The reference voice is a voice obtained by singing the music track. The pitch of the reference voice is processed by an interpolation processing for a voiceless section from which no pitch is detected. The voice analysis method also includes a characteristics analysis step of generating singing characteristics data that define a model for expressing the time series of the relative pitch generated in the variable extraction step.

A desired character train included in a predefined reference character train, such as lyrics, is set as a target character train, and a user designates a target phoneme train that is indirectly representative of the target character train by use of a limited plurality of kinds of particular phonemes, such as vowels and a particular consonants. A reference phoneme train indirectly representative of the reference character train by use of the particular phonemes is prepared in advance. Based on a comparison between the target phoneme train and the reference phoneme train, a sequence of the particular phonemes in the reference phoneme train that matches the target phoneme train is identified, and a character sequence in the reference character train that corresponds to the identified sequence of the particular phonemes is identified. The thus-identified character sequence estimates the target character train.

Some audio processing methods may involve receiving audio data corresponding to a plurality of audio channels and determining audio characteristics of the audio data, which may include transient information. An amount of decorrelation for the audio data may be based, at least in part, on the audio characteristics. If a definite transient event is determined, a decorrelation process may be temporarily halted or slowed. Determining transient information may involve evaluating the likelihood and/or the severity of a transient event. In some implementations, determining transient information may involve evaluating a temporal power variation in the audio data. Explicit transient information may or may not be received with the audio data, depending on the implementation. Explicit transient information may include a transient control value corresponding to a definite transient event, a definite non-transient event or an intermediate transient control value.

A system and method are provided for mixing song data based on measure groupings. A player or program may recognize measure groupings in a song through identifying cuepoints. The player or program may use the cuepoints and/or other identifiers of measure groupings to generate a transition between the song and other songs. Parts of one or both songs may be time-stretched, or frames may be added or deleted, such that the beats in both songs are substantially aligned during the transition. The system and method may also involve altering the sequence of frames in one or both of the songs, so that the transition may have various sonic qualities as desired by a user. A choice of transition modes may be provided via a user interface that allow the user some control over when and how transitions between songs are executed.

Some embodiments provide a music editing application that enables a user to compose and edit note characteristics, e.g., via a touch-sensitive display. The GUI can display a portion of a music track including note events. In response to receiving a user selection of a note event and a user indication for editing a note event, the GUI can display a menu providing a list of characteristics. The characteristics can include an option for associating at least one of several virtual instruments or one of several articulations with the note event. Upon receiving a user input indicating a characteristic, the matrix editor can associate the note event with the characteristic based on the user input. The music editing application can allow the user to edit additional note characteristics (e.g., an instrument, an articulation) because of the extended capacity for data associated with each note event.

A user interface implemented on a touch-sensitive display for a virtual musical instrument comprising a plurality of chord touch regions configured in a predetermined sequence, each chord touch region corresponding to a chord in a musical key and being divided into a plurality of separate touch zones, the plurality of chord touch regions defining a predetermined set of chords, where each of the plurality of separate touch zones in each region is associated with one or more preselected MIDI files stored in a computer-readable medium. In some embodiments, the touch zones are configured to provide different harmonic configurations of a base chord associated with the chord touch region. Some harmonic configurations provide progressively wider harmonic ranges across each adjacent touch zone. Other harmonic configurations can provide chords with a progressively higher relative pitch across each adjacent touch zone.

A system and method for assembling segments of recorded music or video from among various versions or variations of a recording, into a new version or composition, such that a first segment of a first version of a recorded work is attached to a segment of a second segment of a second version of the recorded work, to create a new version of the recorded work.

A plurality of sets of waveform data and switchover position information indicative of, for each of the sets of waveform data, one or more possible switchover positions in the waveform data are prestored, and one set of waveform data is reproduced in accordance with the passage of time. During reproduction of a first set of waveform data, a second set of waveform data is designated at given timing in response to a user's instruction. Control is performed such that the waveform data to be reproduced is switched from the first set of waveform data over to the second set of waveform data in response to waveform data reproduction timing arriving at one of the possible switchover positions indicated by the switchover position information corresponding to the second set of waveform data. Reproduction of the second set of waveform data is started at the switchover position corresponding to the reproduction timing.
