Abstract:
In a method of detecting whether a transmitted data frame is a discontinuous transmission (DTX) frame, a signal metric corresponding to the transmitted data frame is generated in a decoding operation used to decode the data frame from a signal carrying the frame that is received by a base station receiver. A signal energy of the transmitted data frame is determined based on the signal metric, and used for determining whether the transmitted data frame is a DTX frame.
Abstract:
Erasure detection and power control are performed for an intermittently active transport channel with unknown format. A receiver processes each received block and determines whether it passes or fails CRC. For each received block with CRC failure, the receiver performs erasure detection by computing a symbol error rate (SER) and energy of the received block, comparing the computed SER against an SER threshold, comparing the computed energy against an energy threshold, and declaring an erasure if the computed SER is less than the SER threshold and the computed energy exceeds the energy threshold. The SER and energy thresholds may be adjusted based on the average SER and the average energy for prior received blocks with CRC failures. For power control, an SIR target is increased by an UP step whenever an erased block is detected for the transport channel.
Abstract:
A user equipment (UE) operating in a wireless network receives a sequence of speech frames on a speech channel. The UE demodulates at least a portion of a speech frame of the sequence of received speech frames to produce a metric value. The UE discontinues processing of the speech frame and enters a low power discontinuous reception (DRX) mode if the metric value indicates absence of valid speech data, and ignores and does not demodulate at least the next remaining bursts of the speech frame after entering DRX mode.
Abstract:
To allocate a VSAT to a MODCOD in a DVB-S2 ACM system, the HUB periodically transmits pilot frames of alternating MODCODs, which is identified by the VSAT. An FPGA at a VSAT site maintains telemetry of good and bad frames. A processor polls this telemetry to determine the optimal MODCOD to be allocated to the VSAT.
Abstract:
A receiver receives data transmitted from a transmitter. The data is stored in a buffer, and a reliability value of the data is computed by a computing unit. A determining unit determines reliability of the data by comparing a reliability value of existing data in the buffer and a reliability value of the data. When the reliability value of the data is higher than a predetermined value, the existing data is combined with the data. Then, an error correcting unit performs error correcting on combined data obtained, and outputs decoded bits. If the combined data includes many errors, retransmission of the data is requested to the transmitter. When the reliability value of the data is lower than the predetermined value, retransmission of data is directly requested without combining the data with the existing data.
Abstract:
Following a transmission comprising a plurality of symbols, an error measurement is generated for each symbol, so that one may distinguish between symbols having a relatively low error and symbols having a relatively high error. A bit rate to be used for subsequent transmission is determined as a function of error measurements of those symbols that have relatively low error and as a function also of the proportion of symbols having a relatively high error, such that the bit rate reduces as the proportion increases. Measurement of the error rate and/or the durations of high and low error conditions may also be used to set other transmission parameters such as error-correcting code and interleaver settings.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method for receiving a message stream on a channel. A message is received on the channel. Information regarding the bits of a successfully decoded message is added to a message attributes list if the message is successfully decoded. An attempt is made to decode a subsequent message based on the information in the message attributes list.
Abstract:
A method of detecting DTX frames in frames received over a communication channel and a power control method are described, where radio link protocol (RLP) information received over the channel may be received, and one or more frames associated with the RLP information may be determined as an erasure or a DTX frame, based on the RLP information. Such determination may be incorporated into outer loop power control algorithms for adjusting a threshold related to a specified quality of service.
Abstract:
A method for error handling of corrupted repeating primitives during frame reception is disclosed. The method comprises identifying a portion of a received frame including a repeating primitive sequence, determining whether data in the repeating primitive sequence has one or more errors, and indicating a successful reception of the received frame with the one or more errors in the repeating primitive sequence if the number of errors is less than a determined threshold. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
