摘要: A method of obtaining mold spore material useful for inhalant allergy comprising growing a mold which includes mold spores and mycelia on a medium which supports growth of the mold. A porous barrier is provided between the medium and at least some of the mold so that a first group of the mold spores and mycelia lies on the side of the barrier remote from the medium and a second group of mycelia lies in the medium and on the other side of the barrier. After optimum growth of the mold has occurred, the barrier and the first group of mold spores and mycelia are removed from the medium and allowed to dry. Subsequently, at least some of the first group of mold spores and mycelia are removed from the barrier so that the step of removing separate the first group of mold spores and mycelia from the second group of mycelia. Following drying, the removed mold spores and mycelia are sieved to separate the mold spores from most of the mycelia.

摘要: An apparatus for cultivating microorganisms on a granular medium comprises a vertical cylindrical vessel with a top port for charging the seeded granular medium and a bottom port for discharging the culture. The vessel is separated, heightwise, into sections by horizontal partitions, each section being provided with a tube for letting in an aerating flow of air and a tube for letting out the flow with metabolites. Each partition is composite and made up of partially overlapping circular sectors with perforation in the form of slots. The sectors are provided with a means for shifting them so that when the medium is being charged into a section, all sectors form a solid plate, while, during discharge of the culture from the section, the sectors are shifted so that a free downward passage for the culture is provided. The sector shifting means is located under the partition, relative to the medium, and provides for shifting of the sectors in a horizontal plane. Coaxially arranged with the section is a loosening means whose rake interacts with the culture to keep it loose.

摘要: Cultures of microorganisms can be grown in a body cavity by situating therein a nutrient on a suitable carrier while maintaining the nutrient exposed to a predetermined gaseous atmosphere, so that microorganisms which require a particular atmosphere can grow directly in the body cavity on the nutrient. After a time sufficient for culture growth the carrier with the nutrient thereon are removed from the body cavity and inspected, for example, under a microscope with suitable dyes being used to stain the growth for rendering the latter easily visible. The carrier for the nutrient may take the form of a plastic sheet material having small protuberances which are thicker than a nutrient layer carried by the plastic sheet material and which serve to maintain apart from each other surfaces of the plastic and nutrient which otherwise might engage each other to prevent exposure of the nutrient to the predetermined atmosphere. The article is preferably packaged in a container which has in its interior sufficient moisture to prevent drying of the nutrient, the interior of the container being closed off from the outer atmosphere by the sheet material which is used for the container.

摘要: The invention describes a methodology for production of a secondary extra-particle fungal matrix for application as a mycological material, manufactured via a Type II actively aerated static packed-bed bioreactor. A pre-conditioned air stream is passed through a substrate of discrete elements inoculated with a filamentous fungus to form an isotropic inter-particle hyphal matrix between the discrete elements. Continued feeding of the air through the substrate of discrete elements and isotropic inter-particle hyphal matrixes develops an extra-particle hyphal matrix that extends from an isotropic inter-particle hyphal matrix in the direction of airflow into a void space within the vessel.
