    摘要: A color television receiver system has a cathode ray picture tube including an imaging faceplate having deposits of multi-color phosphor targets thereon. The tube includes a three-beam electron gun and a color selection aperture mask having apertures in registration with the targets. A beam-current-control signal is derived from the scansion circuit means of the receiver system; the amplitude of the signal varies monotonically as a function of the distance of the beams from the center of the faceplate. Means are provided for receiving the beam-current-control signal for modulating the receiver system luminance signal with the beam-current-control signal, which has such characteristics that the modulation causes a predetermined gradational reduction in beam current as a function of the distance of the beam from the center of the faceplate. The benefits include enhanced color purity and improved resolution, and energy savings.

The electron focusing means comprises a magnetic lens with a constant magnetic-field intensity and an electrostatic lens so arranged with respect to the magnetic lens that defocusing of the electron beam by the magnetic lens, due to variations in the energy of the beam electrons, is compensated for. The electrostatic lens comprises two axisymmetric electrodes, the first electrode being electrically associated with the electron accelerating means, along the beam axis, and the second electrode being electrically associated with the screen of the cathode-ray tube.

    摘要: A cathode ray tube is provided with a rectangular box-shaped lens intermediate the tube's screen and beam deflection plates for amplifying beam deflections in both the horizontal and vertical axes. In one form, useful in either monoaccelerator or PDA tubes, the lens includes four tubular elements disposed end-to-end and spaced apart a sufficient distance to isolate them electrically. The adjacent ends of each pair of the elements are oppositely curved to provide electron lenses having vertical cylindrical mid-surfaces. The radii of the cylindrical surfaces and the voltages applied to each element are adjusted to provide a lens system that produces minimum distortion and optimum linearity in the resultant display.

    摘要: A compensation circuit for use in a display system for displaying graphical images on an energy responsive surface with a radiant energy beam. The compensation circuit linearizes the relation between a control signal and the amount of deflection of the radiant energy beam upon the radiant energy responsive surface. A nonlinear circuit provides an extremely accurate compensation signal which is non-monotonically related to the magnitude of the control signal. When the control signal is combined with the compensation signal, a compensated deflection control signal is provided having a compensation signal component which generally diminishes for increasing deflections of the radiant energy beam. The amount of circuitry necessary to provide four quadrant compensation is diminished by providing a compensation signal based upon only one quadrant, and then switching the sign of the compensated deflection signal so produced to correspond to the desired deflection direction. Potentiometers are included which provide small variations in the compensation circuit response in different quadrants so as to correct for nonsymmetries in the deflection system. Also, independent on-axis and off-axis correction signals are produced so as to simplify alignment procedures. The on- and off-axis correction signals are then combined to provide the total compensation signal.

The display screen compromises a plurality of optical fibers arranged in aligned relationship to form a bundle of parallel fibers which are extremely short in length. Each fiber has a light receiving face spaced from a light emitting face with there being sufficient light emitting faces to provide for the formation of a suitable image on a television screen. Each light receiving face is arranged at an angle respective to the beam of electrons which is less than the critical angle of the glass fiber. The axial center line of one end of each glass fiber lies normal to the viewing screen and laterally to the beam of electrons.

    摘要: A television cathode ray tube has associated therewith a power supply for developing discrete supply voltages. A general purpose electron gun is depicted for receiving supply voltages from the power supply to produce a sharply focused beam of electrons at the cathode ray tube screen. The gun comprises associated cathode means and grid means for producing a beam of electrons, and novel focus lens means. The focus lens means receives electrons from the cathode means and a predetermined pattern of voltages from the power supply and comprises at least three electrodes for establishing a single, continuous electrostatic focusing field characterized by having an axial potential distribution which, at all times during tube operation, decreases smoothly and monotonically from a relatively intermediate potential to a relatively low potential spatially located at a lens intermediate position, and then increases smoothly, directly and monotonically from said relatively low potential to a relatively high potential.

    摘要: A cathode ray tube employing magnetic deflection coils for deflecting the electron beam in the horizontal and vertical directions, is corrected for the astigmatism error created by the non-uniform magnetic deflection field which causes a predictable elliptical distortion of the electron beam, through the use of two sets of correction coils mounted on a common annular magnetic core located on the neck of the CRT, which distorts the electron beam prior to its entry into the magnetic deflection field in a manner that is complementary to the distortion created by the non-uniform magnetic deflection field. The excitation currents for the correction coils are derived from the horizontal (Vx) and vertical (Vy) beam deflection voltage signals, in such a manner that the excitation current for the first correction coil is proportional to Vx.sup.2 - Vy.sup.2, and the excitation for the second correction coil is proportional to 2.sup.. Vx.sup.. Vy.
