摘要: A method is provided for processing a composite digital audio broadcast signal to mitigate intermittent interruptions in the reception of said digital audio broadcast signal. The method includes the steps of separating an analog modulated portion of the digital audio broadcast signal from a digitally modulated portion of the digital audio broadcast signal, producing a first plurality of audio frames having symbols representative of the analog modulated portion of the digital audio broadcast signal, and producing a second plurality of audio frames having symbols representative of the digitally modulated portion of the digital audio broadcast signal. The first plurality of audio frames is then combined with the second plurality of audio frames to produce a blended audio output. A method is also provided for transmitting a composite digital audio broadcast signal having an analog portion and a digital portion to mitigate intermittent interruptions in the reception of said digital audio broadcast signal. The method comprises the steps of arranging symbols representative of the digital portion of the digital audio broadcast signal into a plurality of audio frames, producing a plurality of modem frames, each of the modem frames including a predetermined number of the audio frames, and adding a frame synchronization signal to each of the modem frames. The modem frames are then transmitted along with the analog portion of the digital audio broadcast signal, with the analog portion being delayed by a time delay corresponding to an integral number of the modem frames. The invention also encompasses radio receivers and transmitters which process signals according to the above methods.

摘要: A data transmission/reception system made up of a transmission device for transmitting data according to a transmission clock signal and a reception device for receiving the data according to a reception clock signal. On receiving synchronization data representing the transmission clock signal from the transmission device, the reception device generates the reception clock signal which is synchronous to the transmission clock signal using a PLL circuit, and notifies the transmission device of an input voltage applied to a VCO in the PLL circuit on completing PLL processing. The transmission device adjusts a frequency of the transmission clock signal based on the notified input voltage so that the reception clock signal will be synchronized to the transmission clock signal at a median frequency in a synchronous range of the VCO in the PLL circuit. The reception device samples image data transmitted from the transmission device, in accordance with the reception clock signal which is synchronous to the transmission clock signal of the adjusted frequency.

摘要: A partial response Class 4 detector in a recording and retrieval system and method of operating the detector for correcting the timing error of the detector. The detector includes a sequence table and comparison circuitry for comparing a sequence of data samples that includes previous and subsequent data samples with allowed sequences determined from the sequence table. When the sequence is an allowed sequence then there is high likelihood that data sample is correct, and the timing error for the data sample is determined in the phase error estimator and is corrected for. Otherwise, no correction is made for the timing error. In the preferred embodiment of the invention the coordinates of the sequence table correspond to the data samples, and the slope of the data stream at the data sample is stored in the sequence table. This reduces the size and increases the speed of the phase error estimator since the slope is now provided to it from the sequence table and it does not need determine the slope.

摘要: The present invention concerns a channel estimation sequence (SE) intended to be transmitted by a transmitter (1) to a receiver (2) via a channel (3) so that it can implement a channel estimation method, the said channel estimation sequence consisting of two concatenated sequences (S and G) respectively consisting of two complementary sequences (s and g), the said channel estimation method consisting, on the transmitter side, of transmitting the said channel estimation sequence and, on the receiver side, of a correlation process consisting of correlating the said received signal with the first (s) of the said complementary sequences, correlating the said received signal with the second (g), delayed one, of the said complementary sequences, adding the results of the said two correlations, and deducing the said characteristics of the said channel (3) from the result of the said correlation process.  According to the present invention, the said two complementary sequences (s and g) are extended periodically by extensions (esf, esd and egf, egd) which constitute replicas of their starting part and/or ending part and which are respectively concatenated at the end and/or start of the sequence.  The present invention also concerns a channel estimation method which uses such a channel estimation sequence.

摘要: A Viterbi decoding system interprets bits in received QAM constellations as many-valued parameters rather than binary valued parameters. It performs the Viterbi algorithm using these many-valued parameters to provide results superior to hard decision decoding. Rather than applying a hard 0-1 function to the QAM data, the system uses a non-stepped linear or curved transfer function to assign values to the bits. This results in performance superior to pure hard decision decoding and approaches that of soft decision decoding; moreover, it is applicable in many situations where soft decision decoding cannot be used.

摘要: There is provided a viterbi decoder for decoding convolutional data. The convolutional data includes punctured data and non punctured data. The decoder includes a branch metric unit for calculating branch metrics of the received convolutional data. An add-compare-select unit selects current and next path selection information and calculates a current state metric and a next state metric of the punctured data, from the branch metrics and a previous state metric. A traceback unit traces the current and the next path selection information selected in the add-compare-select unit to find a maximum likelihood path from which the convolutional data was received, and outputs decoded data. A controller generates a plurality of decoding control signals to the branch metric unit, the add-compare-select unit, and the traceback unit.

摘要: A correlator includes a circuit for serially receiving in phase (I) and quadrature (Q) signal data along parallel I and Q signal channels and converting the data to blocks of n bit parallel I and n bit parallel Q signal data. At least one programmable read only memory (PROM) stores I and Q reference data. The memory receives and stores within each respective parallel I and Q signal channel a current block of n bit parallel I and n bit parallel Q signal data and the immediately previous received blocks of n bit parallel I and n bit parallel Q signal data. A data bus receives the n bit parallel I and Q reference data and the n bit parallel I and Q signal data. The n bit parallel I and Q reference data are correlated with a one bit shifted version of the respective n bit parallel I and Q signal data from an adjacent previous path to produce a correlated I component signal output and a correlated Q component signal output.

摘要: A radio communication device provides extended burst tone detection for a demodulated I and Q input signal. The device includes a first burst detector coupled with the input signal and provides a first detection signal when a FCB tone is detected. A frequency shifter is coupled with the input signal and frequency translates the input signal by a predetermined amount. A second burst detector is coupled with the translated input signal and provides a second detection signal when a FCB tone is detected. A combiner is coupled with the first and second detection signals and indicates FCB tone detection when either of the first and second detection signals indicate FCB tone detection.
