摘要: Certain examples of the present invention relate to a method for manufacturing a ceramic object derived from a 3D printed ceramic structure. The method comprises: carbonising the 3D printed ceramic structure. Such carbonising of the 3D printed ceramic structure may comprise introducing a network of carbon bonding into the 3D printed ceramic structure via: impregnating and/or coating the 3D printed ceramic structure with a carbon precursor, or printing the 3D printed ceramic structure using a ceramic printing medium comprising a carbon precursor. The resultant 3D printed ceramic structure which comprises a carbon precursor is pyrolysed so as to form a network of carbon bonding within/surrounding the 3D printed ceramic structure.

摘要: A refractory filter suitable for filtering molten metal, such as steel, and a method and powdered composition for producing said filter. The filter comprises refractory material, said refractory material comprising: 60-90 wt % alumina; 8-30 wt % zirconia; and 3-20 wt % magnesia. The powdered composition comprises: 60-90 wt % alumina; 8-30 wt % zirconia; and 3-20 wt % magnesia, wherein the powdered composition comprises less than 12.5 wt % reactive alumina, calcined alumina or a mixture thereof, and wherein the remainder of the alumina is tabular alumina. The method comprises: providing a powdered composition in accordance with the invention; forming a filter precursor from the powdered composition and a liquid component; and firing the filter precursor to form a refractory filter.

摘要: A feeder system for metal casting comprising a feeder sleeve mounted on a tubular body. The tubular body has a first end and an opposite second end and a compressible portion therebetween so that upon application of a force in use, the distance between the first and second ends is reduced. The feeder sleeve has a longitudinal axis and comprises a continuous sidewall extending generally around the longitudinal axis that defines a cavity for receiving liquid metal during casting, the sidewall having a base adjacent the second end of the tubular body. The tubular body defines an open bore therethrough for connecting the cavity to the casting. The feeder sleeve has at least one cut-out that extends into the sidewall from the base and the second end of the tubular body projects into the cut-out to a fixed depth. The cut-out can be a groove which is separate from the cavity. The invention also resides in a feeder sleeve for use in the system and a process employing the feeder system.

The feeder element (10) (which serves the function of a breaker core) has a first end (16) for mounting on a mould plate (24), an opposite second end (18) for receiving a feeder sleeve (20) and a bore (14) between the first and second ends (16,18) defined by a sidewall (12). The feeder element (10) is compressible in use whereby to reduce the distance between said first and second ends (16,18).The invention also relates to a breaker core/feeder sleeve assembly (10,20).

摘要: A filter for molten metal is an open-pored porous material comprising particles of refractory material embedded in and bonded together by a carbon matrix bonding material. The filter can be made by forming a porous article from refractory particles, e.g. refractory oxide, carbide or graphite, and a carbon-rich binder, e.g. tar, pitch or an organic (preferably aromatic) polymer that degrades to form carbon on pyrolysis, and then firing the porous article to generate the carbon matrix in which the refractory particles are embedded. The porous article is preferably made by coating a reticulated polyurethane foam with binder and refractory particles, and firing at preferably no higher than 800° C.

摘要: Stopper rods for the continuous casting of molten metal have a stopper rod body, and a stopper rod tip at a lower end of the stopper rod body. The stopper rod tip defines a frustroconically shaped exterior surface which terminates in a recessed nose. The recessed nose is most preferably a curvilinear surface (e.g., a spherical segment), but non-curvilinear surfaces (e.g., prismatic, pyramidal, triangular, and quadrangular surfaces) may alternatively be employed. The frustroconically shaped exterior surface of the stopper rod tip most preferably forms an angle θ with respect to a horizontal plane which is sufficiently great so as to increase the velocity of the flowing molten metal to reduce the boundary layer thickness thereof adjacent the nozzle and stopper rod tip surfaces so as to minimize the deposition of inclusions thereon. In addition, the angle θ formed by the frustroconically shaped exterior surface is also most preferably sufficiently small so as to not detrimentally affect the lifting force sensitivities of the stopper rod.

摘要: A process for forming a mould or a core for casting molten metal by machining (e.g. cutting or drilling) to the desired shape a bonded particulate refractory material wherein the shear strength of the refractory particles is less than the shear strength of the bonds between the particles. The preferred particulate is aluminosilicate microspherers (e.g. “flyash floaters”) and the binder is preferably based on silica (e.g. fumed silica/sodium hydroxide). The bonded particulate material is easily machined to form accurately dimensioned moulds or parts thereof.
