    摘要: There is provided a System and method of wavefront compensation in a synthetic aperture imaging system. A return signal data representative of a signal reflected by a target area to be imaged is received. A compensation phase figure corresponding to a wavefront compensation to be applied is provided. The compensation phase figure is added or otherwise applied to the phase pattern of the return signal data in order to obtain a compensated phase pattern. An optical beam is spatially modulated according to the compensated phase pattern to produce a modulated optical beam such that the compensation phase figure produces a wavefront compensation on the optical beam. An image of the target area is optically generated using the modulated optical beam.

In one embodiment, an imaging system based on a Cassegrain or Schmidt-Cassegrain objective, with coaxial primary and secondary mirrors, is provided with a microdisplacement mechanism acting on the secondary mirror to displace the image on a focusing array. In another embodiment, two co-axial Cassegrain-type objectives are provided one within the other with a common focal plane array, which therefore detects combined wide field-of-view and narrow field-of-view images.

    摘要: A system for screening luggage items, which includes an image generation device suitable for generating an image signal associated with a luggage item where the image signal conveys information related to the contents of the luggage item. The system also includes an apparatus having an input for receiving the image signal and a processing unit. The processing unit processes the image signal in combination with a plurality of target images associated with target objects to detect a presence of at least one target object in the luggage item. The processing unit generates a detection signal in response to detection of the presence of at least one target object in the luggage item. An output module conveys information derived at least in part on the basis of the detection signal to a user of the system. In alternative embodiments, the system may also be used to screen cargo containers and persons.

    摘要: A self-supported optical correlator has a first holder having two opposite ends, one of the opposite ends being provided with anchor points, the other end being provided with a light source. The correlator also has a second holder having two opposite ends, one of which is provided with anchor points, the other being provided with a light receiving element, and a plurality of intermediary holders, each having two opposite ends provided with anchor points, at least one of the intermediary holders being provided with a spatial light modulator for projecting an image and another of the intermediary holders being provided with another spatial light modulator for projecting a filter. Each of the intermediary holders is provided with optical components secured within the holders. The said anchor points are adapted to secure the first, second and intermediary holders together linearly end to end; so that when the intermediary holders are assembled end to end, and the first holder is assembled at one extremity and the other holder is assembled at another extremity, the resulting assembly forms said optical correlator. The optical components are toleranced, and the anchor point serve to assemble a structure which does not require additional adjustments.

    摘要: An optical coherent processor or correlator for processing an input image produced by an imaging device illuminated by a coherent light source utilizes an optical key for preventing unauthorized use of the processor. The principle underlying processing apparatus and method according to the invention uses an optical lock in combination with an encoded software key superimposed on a filter image. The optical lock, which is preferably in hardware form, consists of a first optical mask implementing a locking mask function that is preferably complex (phase and/or amplitude), which first optical mask is included in the optical path of the processor. The mask is fixed during assembly of the processor or correlator and a unique pattern is encoded thereon. The software key consists of a pattern defined by a key mask function that is displayed preferably using a spatial light modulator as part of a second optical mask included on the processor optical path. The key mask function is designed to compensate for the wave-front distortion generated by the locking mask function of the first optical mask. Therefore, an optical processor or correlator provided with its unique hardware lock cannot generates useful correlation, unless a corresponding unique software key is used.

The method comprises the step of providing a vehicle unit having a transmitter and a receiver to transmit and receive an RF signal such that a user of the vehicle unit can inform other vehicle units of presence of the vehicle unit, and can be informed of the presence of other such vehicle units by detecting the RF signal emitted by the other vehicle units located in the range. The receiver further provides an alarm signal to warn of this presence. The method also comprises the step of providing a portable unit adapted to receive the RF signal from the vehicle unit to inform a driver that his vehicle is no longer in range.
