    摘要: A method for diffusing titanium into a single-crystal lithium niobate substrate and guided wave devices produced therefrom provide improved mode match with coupled fibers. Preferably, the titanium diffusion occurs at a diffusion temperature for a time between about 8 hours and about 18 hours. Outdiffusion of lithium oxide is allowed to occur during titanium diffusion. The outdiffused region, typically at least about 25 .mu.m, is much deeper than the titanium diffusion depth, typically about 5-10 .mu.m.

    摘要: A method of scheduling a series of data files, preferably digital movie files provided in encrypted form for transmission to hotels, for transmission by a predetermined transmission channel in a predetermined time period according to one aspect of the invention includes: determining the bandwidth of the transmission channel; determining the size of each data file in the series; determining the schedule of a corresponding series of data files transmitted over the same transmission channel in a previous predetermined period of time; determining data files from the corresponding series that are not available for transmission in this predetermined period of time; determining data files that have become available for transmission since the previous predetermined period of time; determining other parameters dependent on the success or failure of transmission or reception of each data file in the series: assigning a ranking value to each data file according to the determined parameters; and scheduling the transmission of each data file in the series according to its ranking value.

    摘要: A telecommunication system is arranged between a trusted automated interactive system and a non-secure agent. The trusted automated interactive portion is operable for bidirectional communications with a caller. The agent portion is arranged to be bridged onto a communication connection between the caller (or network chat user) and the trusted interactive system under certain conditions. Sensitive data transmitted between the system and a calling user may be blocked from being communicated to the agent even while the agent is bridged onto the connection. In one embodiment, information (such as a verification of authenticity of the caller) pertaining to the sensitive data (but not the sensitive data itself) is communicated to the agent.

    摘要: In LAN interconnect, it is necessary to perform route discovery to locate a destination device. A novel method of selecting designated source routing bridges and a new single-route broadcast scheme using those selected bridges are disclosed. The invention makes use of intelligent source routing bridges which connect LAN segments. In order to configure a single-route broadcast path to each connected LAN, a selection procedure is performed among source routing bridges according to the present invention to ensure that there is only one path between two connecting LAN segments. In one embodiment, a packet switching network is used as a WAN which interconnects many LAN segments by way of a virtual ring created in the WAN and the present invention chooses only one path between the individual LAN segment and the virtual ring.
