Abstract: A process to prepare poly(alkylene furandicarboxylate) polymer is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the process comprises a) contacting a mixture comprising furandicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester, a diol comprising ethylene glycol, 1,3-propanediol, 1,4-butanediol, 1,4cyclohexanedimethanol, or mixtures thereof, and a metal catalyst at a temperature in the range of from about 140° C. to about 220° C. to form prepolymer, wherein the mole ratio of the furandicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester to
a) the diol is in the range of from 1:1.3 to 1:2.2;
b) performing polycondensation by heating the prepolymer under
reduced pressure to a temperature in the range of from about 220° C. to about 260° C. to form poly(alkylene furandicarboxylate) polymer; wherein the rate of polycondensation in step c) is faster with the anthraquinone compound present than without; and
c) adding at least one anthraquinone compound as disclosed herein; and-

Abstract: A process is disclosed herein comprising the steps: a) contacting a mixture comprising furandicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester, 1,3-propanediol, a zinc compound, and optionally a poly(alkylene ether) diol, at a temperature in the range of from about 120° C. to about 220° C. to form prepolymer, wherein the mole ratio of the furandicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester to the 1,3-propanediol is in the range of from 1:1.3 to 1:2.2; and b) heating the prepolymer under reduced pressure to a temperature in the range of from about 220° C. to about 260° C. to form polymer. The mixture of step a) can further comprise an anthraquinone compound.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are processes of making furan-based polyamides using solvent-free melt condensation of a diamine and an ester derivative of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid with a C2 to C12 aliphatic diol or a polyol. The processes comprise a) forming a reaction mixture by mixing one or more diamines, a diester comprising an ester derivative of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid with a C2 to C12 aliphatic diol or a polyol, and a catalyst, such that the diamine is present in an excess amount of at least 1 mol % with respect to the diester amount; and b) melt polycondensing the reaction mixture in the absence of a solvent at a temperature in the range of 60° C. to a maximum temperature of 250° C. under an inert atmosphere, while removing alkyl alcohol to form a furan-based polyamide, wherein the one or more diamines comprises an aliphatic diamine, an aromatic diamine, or an alkylaromatic diamine.
