According to one embodiment, an information playback apparatus which plays back content to be played back recorded on a recording medium, and displays the content on a display unit, includes a plurality of specific function keys which accept an execution request for each predetermined function in the information playback apparatus, and at least one versatile function key which accepts an execution request for a settable function in the information playback apparatus. Furthermore, the information playback apparatus includes an MPU unit which associates a function to be accepted by each versatile function key with a corresponding versatile function key, based on function definition information which is recorded on the recording medium and defines a function to be accepted by each versatile function key.

According to one embodiment, an information playback apparatus plays back content of an optical disk and hard disk, and displays the content on a display device. The information playback apparatus has a menu window display processing unit which stops playback of the content upon pressing a menu key during playback of the content, and displays a menu window in place of the content on the display device. The information playback apparatus also has a resume playback processing unit which resumes playback of the stopped content upon pressing a resume key while displaying the menu window on the display device, and displays the resume-played content in place of the menu window on the display device.

A coating apparatus includes a backup roll that is rotated in accordance with movement of a web and supports the web from a rear surface thereof and a nozzle that includes a first edge and a second edge located at an upstream side of the first edge in a direction of movement of the web and extrudes a coating composition toward a surface of the web through a flow channel formed between the first edge and the second edge. The first edge is formed so that a corner portion between an end surface that faces the backup roll and a side surface that faces the second edge is arc-shaped in cross section and the end surface of the first edge protrudes further toward the backup roll than an end surface of the second edge that faces the backup roll.

In order to correct an overflow of a multiplication result while improving the operation speed, an overflow detection unit detects an overflow based on whether a multiplicand A and a multiplier B are both a negative value with the largest absolute value. A carry-save adder adds together in carry-save addition partial products and −1 (where all bits are 1) as a first correction value to output an intermediate sum and an intermediate carry corresponding to A×B−1. A carry-propagate adder adds together in carry-propagate addition the intermediate sum, the intermediate carry and a second correction value to output the multiplication result. Where there is no overflow, the second correction value becomes 1 to cancel out the first correction value, whereby the operation result is A×B. Where there is an overflow, the second correction value becomes 0, whereby the operation result is A×B−1 in which the overflow is corrected by the first correction value.

A display apparatus comprises a display unit which has a plurality of organic EL elements two-dimensionally arranged to define pixels. Each organic EL element comprises a first electrode, an organic EL layer, and a second electrode laminated in order on an optically transparent substrate. One of the first electrode and second electrode is an optically transparent electrode, while the other is a non-optically transparent electrode. The non-optically transparent electrode is disposed to exist only in part of each pixel, as viewed from vertically above (for example, the width of the electrode is made smaller than the width of a pixel). In this way, the display unit can transmit light through portions of the pixels in which the non-optically transparent electrodes are not disposed. Preferably, the non-optically transparent electrode includes a mirror surface opposite to the organic EL layer.
