    摘要: The present invention relates to a circuit for driving a solid state optical emitter device such as a laser diode, and in particular a circuit which limits the maximum current which may be drawn through the device. The circuit comprises a current supply path and a current return path to which the optical emitter may be connected, and a current limit device to limit a maximum current that may flow through one of the current paths. The current limit device has a current mirror with an input portion and an output portion, the circuit being arranged so that when a first current flows through the input portion, the second portion is predisposed to supply a second current up to a maximum which mirrors the first current. The maximum current through the paths is thereby limited in accordance with the maximum of the second current.

    摘要: To provide a stabilized current to a current modulator or the like in a limited voltage headroom environment, the a current mirror having first and second mirror transistors is provided. Bases of the transistors are coupled together through a resistive element, with base leakage current to the first transistor generating a voltage drop across the resistive element. The voltage drop acts to boost a voltage through an emitter resistor of an output stage of the current mirror, the output stage realized by at least the second mirror transistor. With boosting of the voltage through the emitter resistor there is a corresponding boost in output current defined by the voltage across emitter resistor. As such, the circuit effectively increases the operating voltage and hence the voltage headroom derived from a supply voltage provided to the bases of the first and second mirror transistors.

    摘要: A data rate determination apparatus includes an edge detection and clock generation circuit for receiving an input bit stream. The edge detection and clock generation circuit generates a pulse for each edge detected in the input bit stream. The pulses are passed to a programmable re-triggerable monostable multivibrator circuit coupled to a binary counter, which counts how many pulses are received within a time period determined by the number of pulses received at a rate higher than a predetermined rate. The binary counter is coupled to a Gray code counter coupled to a processing unit. The processing unit uses different counts that are accumulated over different sampling periods with different predetermined rates to establish statistical data, which can be compared to known data for different data rate standards or formats.
