摘要: A method of and an apparatus for expanding tobacco, particularly tobacco impregnated with solid carbon dioxide are disclosed. The apparatus comprises an arcuate, generally C-shaped duct for conveying the tobacco material in a hot gaseous medium to sublimate the solid carbon dioxide and expand the tobacco. The duct has a non-circular cross-section, preferably a rectangular cross-section, with a high width-to-depth ratio and an increasing depth from the inlet to an intermediate portion of the duct then a decreasing depth from the intermediate portion to the outlet of the duct. A winnower device infeeds the tobacco material into the duct adjacent the throat of a venturi section connected to the inlet of the conveying duct. A tangential separator with an adjustable baffle at the inlet thereof for controlling velocity in the separator is used to separate the expanded tobacco from the gaseous medium.

摘要: A master and a slave stage of a flip-flop are each separately clocked with non-overlapping clock signals during scan mode to eliminate a data input scan mode multiplexer. Separate, non-overlapping clocking permits the elimination of hold violations in scan mode for scan mode flip flop chains, permitting the elimination of delay buffers in the scan mode data paths. Resulting application circuits have reduced circuit area, power consumption and noise generation. A clock generator for scan mode clocking is provided to obtain the separate, non-overlapping scan mode clocks. Scan mode clocks may be generated with a toggle flip flop, a pulse generator or a clock gating circuit.

摘要: An automated banking machine (10) includes a lockable first fascia portion (20) which when unlocked enables access to a chest lock input device (104), inputs to which enable opening a chest door (18) of the machine. Opening the first fascia portion also enables access to an actuator (116) which enables moving a second fascia portion (22) for conducting service activities. A baffle structure (164) is positioned on the housing adjacent the second fascia portion to enable cooling air flow within the housing of the machine and to prevent the introduction of moisture into the housing. A controller (72) in the machine selectively illuminates light emitting devices (118, 126) for purposes of facilitating user operation of the machine. Sensing devices (128) adjacent a card reader slot (28) on the machine enables the controller to detect the presence of a fraud device or unauthorized card reading devices.

摘要: A method of disposing of radioactive waste comprising the steps of: providing a pressure-equalizing container; filling the pressure-equalizing container with radioactive waste; and burying the waste filled container in a subduction fault region of the earth's crust. For a preferred embodiment of the process, the waste filled containers are buried in the mud on the ocean floor in a subduction fault region. Preferably, the containers are placed on the ocean side of the fault, rather than the continental shelf side. The pressure-equalizing container is preferably fabricated from stainless steel, with a lead seal, although containers fabricated from ceramic materials may also be used. The waste-filled containers are transported by ship to the area above a subduction fault, and an unpressurized, remote-controlled “submarine crawler” takes a number of containers to the ocean floor and buries them there, individually, in the mud or sediments.

摘要: A method for providing a hot standby master on a fieldbus includes communicatively coupling a redundancy coupler to a fieldbus having at least one slave device communicatively coupled thereto. The method further includes communicatively coupling a plurality of redundant fieldbus master controllers (MCs) to the coupler and utilizing the coupler to determine which of the plurality of redundant MCs is active. Also included in the method is using the coupler to receive communications from the active MC and to forward the received communications from the active MC to the one or more slave devices via the fieldbus. In addition, the coupler is used to receive communications from the other redundant MCs and to prevent the received communications from the redundant MCs from being forwarded to the one or more slave devices.
