    摘要: An optical device has a first medium that produces more photons that exit the first medium than enter the first medium, such as a gain material. A second medium that produces light of a different wavelength than the wavelength of light incident thereon, such as a second harmonic generator. The optical device defines a cavity including the first medium and the second medium. An energy source provides energy to at least one of the first medium and the second medium so that light exits the cavity, the energy source is modified in a number of different manners such that the optical device has decreased noise output.

    摘要: A method for evaluating the motion of a moveable object relative to a reference object includes locating the reference object within a three-dimensional coordinate system having first, second, and third positional coordinates such that the position of the reference object is characterized by respective values of first, second, and third positional coordinates. A mechanism is provided having a plurality of visual indicators. A sensor is configured to detect the position of the moveable object within the three-dimensional coordinate system substantially apart from any dynamic property inherent in the movement of the moveable object. An acceptable minimal number of sampling events is determined and providing a sensor having sufficient response rate as to be capable of determining respective positions of the moveable object as the moveable object moves relative to the reference object such that the number of the respective positions exceeds the acceptable minimal number for any maximum velocity of the moveable object manually achievable by the user.

    摘要: An integrated, low profile, high power laser light emission device is disclosed. The integrated laser light emission device provides uniform heat dissipation, as well as uniform pumping of the laser gain medium without the need for a pumping cavity. The laser system includes a pump diode array that can be mounted directly to a laser gain medium without intervening correcting optics hardware. Heat generated by the laser light emission device is cooled by a single cooling system. In the laser device, a pump diode array is preferably a Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) array. VCSEL arrays are mounted on the laser gain crystal by a metal cavity frame or metal stilts. The slightly elevated mounting of the VCSEL's enables increased cooling and maximizing the quantity of VCSEL's on the laser gain medium in order to achieve highly efficient and high power laser light output.

    摘要: An automatic fingerprint system includes an optical sensor having a first light source that provides a collimated beam for interrogating a first sample surface, and a camera including a lens and a photodetector array having a camera field of view (FOVCAMERA) large enough to image the first sample surface. The camera is critical angle positioned relative to the first light source to receive specular reflection (glare) from the first sample surface to generate image data from the glare. The first light source and camera have substantially equal and opposite numerical apertures (NAs). A computer or processor that includes reference fingerprint templates receives a digitized form of the image data, and includes data processing software for (i) comparing the image data to reference fingerprint templates to determine whether the image data includes at least one fingerprint and (ii) for generating a fingerprint image if the fingerprint is determined to be present.
