摘要: A circuit breaker is disclosed which has first and second electrodes that can be contacted to complete a circuit or withdrawn from each other by some suitable mechanism to break the circuit. During breaking of the circuit, an electric arc is created. The circuit breaker includes means for providing gas pressure below atmosphere around the electrodes, at least at the time the arc is struck. The circuit breaker also includes a shield arranged in proximity to the electrodes which is ablated by the action of the arc. The shield's arrangement and material are chosen such that, when ablated, the shield releases gas to assist in extinguishing the arc.

The tube, containing a loose debris particle, may be reprocessed by positioning the particle at an accessible site inside the tube. A power laser is aimed at the particle through a transparent wall of the tube and fired to reduce the size of the particle.

摘要: An apparatus for drilling cooling holes through a wall of a hollow component is disclosed. First, a laser drill is used for drilling at least one rough blind hole within a component wall, for example a turbine airfoil, so as to retain a residual bottom plate portion. Next, an electro discharge machine (EDM), for example a rotating EDM or plunge EDM, is used for finishing at least one rough blind hole so as to create at least one finished hole and breaking through the bottom plate portion.

摘要: A method for welding a first metallic material to a second metallic material where at least one of the first and second metallic materials have at least one surface which has an optical pattern thereon. The method comprises the steps of: arranging the first and second metallic materials into a final position in which they will be welded along a joint; directing focused energy at the joint from a Nd-YAG pulsed laser having an energy output in a range from about 10 Joules to about 30 Joules and a pulse length in a range from about 5 ms to about 9 ms; and traversing the joint at a predetermined welding speed while directing the focused energy such that a weld spot overlap in a range from about 50% to about 90% is maintained, resulting in a welded joint wherein a heat effect zone about the welded joint is minimized further resulting in minimal distortion and damage to an area of the optical pattern proximate to the welded joint. Also provided is a method for repairing any weld defects in the welded joint with the same Nd-YAG pulsed laser.
