The present invention relates to a continuous process for the production of impact resistance-modified thermoplastics. An elastomer, in particular a particulate graft polymer with a water moisture content of 1 to 50%, preferably 10 to 40%, is incorporated into a thermoplastics melt in a large volume kneader reactor. The mixing ratio of elastomer to thermoplastics melt is 4:1 to 1:4. The energy required to melt the elastomer and to evaporate the adhering water is added by heating the walls of the apparatus and via the kneading action of the installed rotating parts.

The present invention relates to a polymer composition containing polycarbonate with a weight-average molecular weight Mw of from 24,000 to 33,000 and 5.0 wt. % to 20.0 wt. % (based on the total amount of the composition) of glass hollow spheres with an alkalinity of less than 1.0 meq/g. The present invention furthermore provides coextruded sheets in which the coextruded layer contains this polymer composition, and shaped articles produced therefrom, in particular containers and pieces of luggage, very particularly suitcases. Sheets which are obtainable with the polymer composition according to the invention have a high mechanical stability, a high scratch resistance, pleasant haptic properties and an excellent homogeneous external visual impression. The present invention furthermore relates to a process for the preparation of these polymer compositions and a process for production of the sheets according to the invention.

Rubber-free copolymers of unsaturated monomers selected from the group comprising styrenes and vinyl cyanides are disclosed. The copolymers that contain 65 to 80 wt. %, of styrene and 20 to 35 wt. % of acrylonitrile are characterized in their low content of residual monomers and improved physical properties. Also disclosed are a process and a device for the preparation of these copolymers.
