Abstract:
In a display apparatus and a method for driving the display apparatus, the display apparatus includes a display panel and a gate driving part. The display panel has a gate line, and a gate driving part has a plurality of stages and a plurality of signal lines. At least one of the stages includes a transferring stage sequentially driving the stage, and an output stage partially driving the gate line, in response to a signal outputted from the transferring stage and a driving area selection signal. Accordingly, the display apparatus is partially driven, so that current consumption may be decreased, the display apparatus may be more safely driven, and a position, a size and the number of a non-display area may be more easily controlled.
Abstract:
A method of detecting a touch position and a touch panel for performing the method are disclosed. In the above-mentioned method, a plurality of scan signals is sequentially supplied to a plurality of first sensor lines arranged in a first direction. Then, at least one of the scan signals is analyzed based on touch events, which is transferred from the first sensor lines to a plurality of second sensor lines arranged in a second direction substantially across to the first direction, and then at least one of touch positions is detected. Therefore, a plurality of scan signals is sequentially applied to the first sensor lines in the first direction, so that a plurality of touch events is simultaneously detected so that a plurality of touch positions may be detected.
Abstract:
A display panel includes an array substrate and an opposite substrate. The array substrate includes a plurality of data lines, a plurality of gate lines, a plurality of first signal lines, a plurality of second signal lines and a plurality of pixels. Each of the pixels includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode insulated from the pixel electrode. The opposite substrate includes a plurality of connecting members. At least one of the connecting members is electrically connected to at least one of the first signal lines and the second signal lines by an externally provided pressure. Thus, when an externally provided pressure is applied to the display panel in order to perform a touch screen function, an alignment of the liquid crystal molecules disposed on the array substrate may not be substantially changed, and a display quality may be improved.
Abstract:
A display device includes: a plurality of sensing data lines; a plurality of sensing units that output sensing signals through the plurality of sensing data lines; a signal selector that selects one sensing signal among the plurality of sensing signals; an automatic voltage adjusting unit that, when one sensing signal is selected by the signal selector, performs a controlling operation so as to allow a magnitude of the selected sensing signal to be in a predetermined range; and a voltage generator that adjusts the magnitude of the voltage applied to the sensing data lines based on a control signal output from the automatic voltage adjusting unit. According to the voltage adjusting operation, the sensing signal output through the sensing data line is always in an appropriate range. As a result, the touch determining operation on the sensing units can be accurately performed, so that it is possible to improve reliability of the sensing units.
Abstract:
A display device including a plurality of sensing units, a plurality of first sensing signal lines, a first output unit, a first sensing output line, and a sensing signal processor. The sensing units are arranged in a matrix and generate a detection signal according to user contact. The first sensing signal lines transfer the detection signal of the sensing unit arranged in a first direction. The second sensing signal lines transfer the detection signal of the sensing units arranged in a second direction that is perpendicular to the first direction. The first output unit sequentially outputs the detection signals of the first sensing signal lines. The first sensing output line extends in the second direction for transferring the detection signal of the first output unit. The sensing signal processor determines whether contact is made or not by processing the detection signals of the first sensing signal lines and the second sensing signal lines. The non-display area of the liquid crystal panel assembly can be reduced by sequentially outputting the sensing data signals of the row and column sensing signal lines through the small amount of wiring. Therefore, an IC can be reduced in size.

In a light sensing element having simplified structure, an array substrate having the light sensing element and an LCD apparatus having the light sensing element, the light sensing element includes a first electrode, a control electrode and a second electrode. An alternating bias voltage is applied to the first electrode. An off voltage is applied to the control electrode. The second electrode outputs a light-induced leakage current based on an externally provided light and the bias voltage. Therefore, the array substrate includes one light sensing switching element corresponding to one pixel so that structure of the array substrate is simplified and opening ratio is increased.

An LCD device includes a transmissive LCD panel assembly, a backlight assembly for supplying light to the LCD panel assembly, and a selective reflection film provided between the backlight assembly and the LCD panel assembly. A display region of the LCD has a low-resolution area and a high-resolution area, and a pixel formed in the low-resolution area that is larger than a pixel formed in the high-resolution area.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a transmissive and reflective type LCD. In the LCD, a second substrate faces a first substrate. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate. A first polarizing plate is formed on an outer surface of the first substrate. A second polarizing plate is formed on an outer surface of the second substrate. A backlight is arranged for irradiating incident light onto the polarizing plate. A transparent transflective film is arranged between the first polarizing plate and the backlight for partially reflecting and partially transmitting the incident light. The transparent transflective film includes at least a first layer and a second layer, the first and second layers having different refractivity indexes from each other and are alternatively stacked. By a restoring process occurring between the transflective film and the backlight, a predetermined amount of the incident light is transmitted through the transflective film repeatedly, so that transmissivity and light efficiency are enhanced.

The apparatus further includes a data driving chip, disposed on the liquid crystal display panel, to apply data driving signals to data lines. The gate driving circuit includes a plurality of stages connected to one another in parallel. The odd-numbered stages of the stages each apply gate driving signals to odd-numbered gate lines of the gate lines, in response to a first clock signal and the even-numbered stages of the stages each apply the gate driving signals to even-numbered gate lines of the gate lines, in response to a second clock signal having an opposite phase from a phase of the first clock signal.
Abstract:
A shift register includes a plurality of stages each generating an output signal in sequence and including a buffering section, a driving section, a first charging section, and a charging control section. The buffering section receives one of a scan start signal and an output signal of a previous stage so that the driving section generates the output signal of a present stage. The first charging section includes a first terminal electrically connected to the driving section and a second terminal electrically connected to a first source voltage. The charging control section applies the output signal of a next stage to the first charging section. Therefore, a gradual failure of TFT is reduced.
