    摘要: A device includes a substrate and a transducer attached to the substrate, wherein the substrate includes a surface to which the transducer is attached and at least one edge member extending along at least a portion of the outside edge of the surface. The surface can be a generally planar surface. The edge member is stiffer than the surface. In several embodiments, the transducer is adapted to vibrate. The transducer can, for example, be selected from the group consisting of a piezoelectric transducer, an electrostrictive transducer and a magnetostrictive transducer. Preferably, the transducer is attached to the surface of the substrate by a metallic bonding agent and, more particularly, by welding.

    摘要: An impact sensor system includes at least one impact sensor including at least a first conductive layer, at least a second conductive layer, and at least one insulating layer between the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer. The insulating layer maintains the first conductive layer and the second conductive layer in spaced, non-contacting relation. The first conducting layer and the insulating layer are deformable upon an impact to the first conducting layer such that separation between the first conducting layer and the second conducting layer decreases upon an impact of a predefined nature. The impact sensor system also includes circuitry in connection with the impact sensor to measure a change in at least one electrical property of the impact sensor resulting from the decrease in the separation between the first conducting layer and the second conducting layer. A body armor system to be worn by a person includes at least one section of body armor and at least one impact sensor associated with at least a section of the body armor.

    摘要: A high power density semiconductor module of reduced size and weight wherein a fusion element assembly for meeting electrical power processing requirements is nested in a hollow casing for both electrically insulating and operatively cooling by a single fluid medium. A pair of electrically conductive terminals penetrates the casing at opposite ends to make an electrical path through the fusion element assembly which resides within the casing as a stack in which each semiconductor fusion element is interleaved with plural heat sink elements undergoing a uniform compressive loading parameter. The stack is electrically insulated and cooled through transverse grooves in the fusion element assembly, which in one embodiment for space based utilization, is by way of finned heat sink or backing plate elements for passaging a dual function cryogen fluid such as supercritical liquid hydrogen. A terrestrial aviation or marine based utilization, provides that an ester base cooling oil having good dielectric properties may be instead used.

    摘要: A superconducting magnetic energy (SMES) system having an axially sectioned multilayered solenoid coil immersed in a liquid helium bath contained in annular helium vessel includes as an interface between each section of the inner and outer layers of the coil and the helium vessel a finger plate assembly comprising a plurality of electrically nonconductive finger plates clamped at one end with spacers between adjacent finger plates to hanger plates welded to the helium vessel walls. The other ends of the finger plates are interleafed with the turns of the coil and clamped together with the coil turns by clamping assemblies which clamp the turns in adjacent layers of the coil. Loading bars between the layers transmit the radial loads generated by the magnetic and thermal forces acting on the coil to the finger plates. The radial loads pass through the finger plates to the helium vessel side walls and then through radial struts outside the helium vessel to the walls of a trench in which the SMES system is installed. Axial loads on the coil produced by the Lorentz force and differential thermal expansion and contraction of the coil relative to the helium vessel are absorbed in bending of the finger plates.
