A method of preparing a silica-containing composition from a lithium silicate sol is disclosed. The compositions are prepared by heating shaped particles of lithium silicate sol to a temperature of about 70.degree. C. or more in the absence of a gelling agent and thereafter subjecting the particles to a washing step to remove lithium therefrom. By means of the novel method it is possible to prepare silica-containing compositions which are suitable as catalyst and/or adsorbent supports.

An improvement in a process for the isomerization of cresols may be obtained by effecting the isomerization reaction of a cresol in the presence of a phosphorous containing crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst. The added phosphorous provides stability and longer life to the catalyst as well as more stable selectivity to the desired isomers. The isomerization reaction is effected at temperatures ranging from about 350.degree. C. to about 500.degree. C., pressures ranging from about 1 to about 60 atmospheres, a Liquid Hourly Space Velocity that ranges from 1 to about 5 hours.sup.-1, with the abovementioned catalyst containing from about 1% to about 8% by weight phosphorous.

An FCC catalyst is made with a zeolite Beta which contains from about 0.1 to 15 wt % based on the weight of the zeolite Beta of gallium, zinc or mixtures thereof. The catalyst substantially increases the aromatic content of the gasoline compared to just using a catalyst of zeolite Beta. The catalyst can also be made with an inorganic oxide binder for the metal modified zeolite Beta and other catalytically active zeolite components.

A novel catalyst composite is disclosed as well as a novel method of preparing the composite and a novel use for the composite. The novel composite comprises a nonacidic zeolite, catalytically effective amounts of a Group VIII metal component, and a silica support matrix derived by a high pH gelation of an alkali metal silicate sol. This novel composition has particular utility as a dehydrocyclization catalyst for the conversion of paraffins to aromatic compounds.

A copolymer compositions comprising a major amount of an alternating copolymer of carbon monoxide with one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds and a minor of at least one stabilizing additive which is a zeolite-type trivalent-metal silicate containing a cation of an element of Group 2 of the Periodic Table is disclosed. This copolymer composition has and exhibits improved stability and contains a substantially reduced amount of residual solvent. Also disclosed is a process for producing this copolymer composition, and articles of manufacture made from this composition.
