    摘要: A timing bridge device is used to gain boundary and transparent clock functionality using conventional network components on those network links that require good timing distribution. This timing path is invisible to the network component. The timing bridge device has an internal time clock and timestamps a received message according to the internal time clock when the message is received by a network device and when the message leaves the network device. The time associated with the message is then adjusted based on a determined transit delay.

    摘要: A synthetic instrument having a local area network, a plurality of component modules and a data source module is disclosed. Each component module has an input for receiving an input signal, an output for transferring an output signal derived from the input signal by that component module, and a network port that connects that module to the local area network. One of the component modules receives a signal that is external to the instrument for processing on that component module's input port. The data source module generates data that can be displayed. The data source module is connected to the local area network and broadcasts the data on the network. The data includes information identifying the data. The instrument may also include a display module connected to the local area network, the display module displaying the data on a display connected to the display module.

    摘要: An instrumentation system which provides relatively precise time correlation among obtained measurements without dependence on trigger signal timing. An instrumentation system according to the present teachings includes a set of instruments each having a clock and an event buffer for periodically logging a data record. Each data record includes a set of measurement data and a time-stamp obtained from the corresponding clock. The instrumentation system includes mechanisms for maintaining a synchronized time in the clocks and mechanisms for stopping the logging in the event buffers in response to an event of interest. Once event logging is stopped, the data records in the event buffers may be correlated using their time-stamps and a time-stamp associated with the event of interest.

A trigger node according to the present teachings includes a synchronized clock that maintains a time using a synchronization scheme that provides the timing precision needed for the application of stimuli and/or measurement of responses. A trigger node according to the present teachings further includes mechanisms for asserting a trigger signal when the time from its synchronized clock matches a trigger time associated with the trigger signal. Multiple trigger nodes may be used to coordinate the timing of multiple measurement and control devices by appropriately setting the trigger times in the trigger nodes.

Optional fields may be specified such as time stamp, units, location, and value. The RCI uses explicit representation and standard representations for data and other communication entities to minimize the difficulty in establishing the necessary communication between parts of these systems while maximizing the interoperability properties of the components of these systems. In addition, the interface allows for the use of distributed or collective entities. A variety of services and other supporting methods are enabled by the RCI.
