摘要: A continuous alpha monitor includes an air intake mechanism, which in turn includes an air mover and an air flowrate monitor, an air intake prefilter that limits particulates in the air intake mechanism to an aerodynamic diameter of 10 microns or less, and a particle size detector mounted downstream of the air intake prefilter, the air particle size detector providing a distribution of aerodynamic diameters of particulates in air passing the prefilter, the particulates including depleted uranium particulates. The monitor further includes a sample filter mechanism that collects the particulates; a detector mechanism that detects alpha radiation emitted by the collected particulates; a dust loading mechanism that computes a dust thickness on the sample filter mechanism; and an output mechanism that provides an indication of alpha concentration detected by the detector mechanism.

摘要: Provided herein are methods for making water-soluble nanoparticles comprising a core/shell nanocrystal that is coated with a surface layer comprising enough hydrophilic ligands to render the nanoparticle water soluble or water dispersable. Methods for crosslinking molecules on the surface of a nanoparticle, which methods can be used on the above water-soluble nanoparticles also are provided. Nanoparticle compositions resulting from these methods are also provided.

摘要: Provided are reagents and methods for non-invasive in vivo imaging wherein the reagents comprise targeted carrier molecules conjugated to a NIR reporter molecule. In one aspect the targeted carrier molecule is an antibody, or fragment thereof that has specificity for an antigen in a living body, animal or human. In one embodiment the antibodies are anti-cancer/tumor marker antibodies, organ specific antibodies, tissue specific antibodies, cell type specific antibodies, cell surface specific antibodies, anti-viral antibodies, anti-bacterial antibodies and anti-pathogenic antibodies. The NIR reporter molecules are any fluorescent reporter molecule compatible with in vivo imaging and generally having an excitation wavelength of at least 580 nm.

摘要: An optical transmitter (8) having enhanced stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) threshold power (PSBS) capability is disclosed. The transmitter includes a light source (12) adapted to emit a continuous-wave (CW) light beam (16). A phase modulator (20) is optically coupled to the light source and to a plurality n of radio-frequency (RF) signal drivers (22) adapted to generate a corresponding plurality of sinusoidal RF drive signals having respective modulation amplitudes An, modulation frequencies fn, and modulation phases φn. The phase modulator phase modulates the light beam based on the plurality of sinusoidal RF drive signals to form a phase-modulated carrier light beam (16′). The modulation phases φn are chosen to increase the SBS threshold power relative to a baseline threshold power when the phase-modulated carrier light beam travels over an optical fiber (50). Modulation frequencies fn are also chosen to suppress combined second-order (CSO) distortion.

摘要: The invention relates to G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) microarrays on porous substrates for structural or functional analyses of GPCRs, and methods of preparing porous substrate surfaces for receiving membranes that comprise GPCRs. In one embodiment, a GPCR microarray of the invention comprises a membrane adhered to an upper surface of a porous substrate, the membrane spanning across a plurality of pores on the porous substrate to form a plurality of cavities having sufficient geometry to permit entry of assay reagents into each cavity, thereby allowing access of assay reagents to both sides of GPCR in the membrane.

摘要: A continuous alpha monitor includes an air intake mechanism, which in turn includes an air mover, an air intake prefilter that limits particulates in the air intake mechanism to an aerodynamic diameter of 10 microns or less, and a particle detector mounted downstream of the air intake prefilter, the air particle detector providing a first airborne dust concentration and a first distribution of aerodynamic diameters of particulates in air passing the prefilter, the particulates including depleted uranium particulates. The monitor further includes a movable sample filter web that collects the particulates; a solid state detector that detects alpha radiation emitted by the collected particulates; a processor that executes machine instructions embodied on a non-transient computer-readable storage medium to compute a dust loading on the sample filter web; and the processor computes an indication of alpha concentration detected by the solid state detector.

摘要: A nanoparticle having one or more phosphonates or phosphinate ligands on their surface can be converted into nanoparticles with sulfonate ligands on their surface, by contacting the phosphonate-containing nanoparticles with a silylsulfonate reagent. Such nanoparticles are activated toward reactions with nucleophilic groups; thus the method provides activated nanoparticles, and methods of making and using them to produce modified nanoparticles.
