    摘要: A liquid crystal display device including a pair of substrates, a liquid crystal layer interposed between the pair of substrates, a plurality of first common electrodes extending in a direction and being formed on one substrate of the pair of substrates, and a second common electrode connected to one of the first common electrodes. The second common electrode has a first edge adjacent the one of the first common electrodes and a second edge opposite to the one of the first common electrode. A first pixel electrode is formed between two of the first common electrodes and extends in the same direction as the first common electrodes. A second pixel electrode overlaps the second common electrode, is connected to the first pixel electrode, and covers at least a portion of the first edge of the second common electrode.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display has excellent viewing angle characteristics and prevents any reduction of transmittance. A liquid crystal panel has a pair of substrates SUB1, SUB2 sandwiching a liquid crystal layer LC, at least one of the substrates having electrodes DTM for selecting pixels, polarizing plates POL1, POL2 disposed on both sides of the liquid crystal panel to control the transmitted light depending on the state of orientation of liquid crystal molecules by applying a voltage to the electrodes, illumination means BL for illuminating the liquid crystal panel, a driving circuit for applying a voltage in accordance with a display image to the electrodes, and birefringent sheet PDS formed on the outer surface of one of the pair of substrates SUB1 and SUB2 such that the direction of the maximum contrast or luminance becomes the vertical direction and such that viewing angle characteristics become symmetric in the horizontal direction, wherein the liquid crystal layer LC is oriented such that the transmittances of the liquid crystal panel in use in the vertical direction and horizontal direction have asymmetric viewing angle dependence and such that the direction of the maximum contrast or luminance is a direction different from either of the vertical and horizontal directions.

    摘要: The liquid crystal display device has a plurality of pixel elements, the optical transmissivity of which is varied by suitable electrical signals. The liquid crystal display device has electrodes which apply electric fields to a liquid crystal layer, the electric fields having components in a direction generally parallel to the liquid crystal layer. Each pixel element has at least one pixel electrode which extends in a common direction as signal electrodes and common electrodes which extend over several pixel elements. The common electrodes may be on the same side of the liquid crystal layer as the pixel and signal electrodes, or they may be on opposite sides. Each pixel may have two pixel electrodes with the signal electrode therebetween and there are then a pair of common electrodes with the pixel electrodes therebetween. The common electrodes may be common to adjacent pixel elements. The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes may be separated by an insulating film.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display provided with a matrix of inverted-stagger thin-film transistors has a plurality of gate insulating films formed over gate lines and including one insulating film formed in contact with gate electrodes of the thin-film transistors and in self-alignment with gate lines in the picture display area of the liquid crystal display. The rest of the gate insulating films not crossing the gate electrodes and in contact with a semiconductor layer are patterned in conformity with drain electrodes (data lines), and a semiconductor layer and an insulating film not crossing the drain electrode and crossing the gate electrodes are patterned at the same time. The method has less steps than the conventional method, is capable of fabricating a liquid crystal display capable of displaying pictures in a high picture quality at a high yield rate.
