RIGID CELLULAR MATERIALS WITH CLOSED CELLS. PREPARED FROM POLYVINYL CHLORIDE AND MANUFACTURED BY COPOLYMERISING AT LEAST ONE VINYLIDENE MONOMER WITH AN ETHYLENIC CARBOXYLIC ACID ANHYDRIDE, BY GRAFTING THIS COPOLYMER ON THE CHAINS OF A POLYVINYL CHLORIDE, BY CROSSLINKING WITH ONE ANOTHER THE GRAFTED COPOLYMERS, BY FORMATION OF TWO AMIDE FUNCTIONS BETWEEN THE ISOCYANATE GROUPS OF A MIXTURES OF POLYISOCYANATES AND THE ACID ANHYDRIDE GROUPS AND BY DECOMPOSING A BLOWING AGENT BY HEAT DURING ALL THESE OPERATIONS; THE MIXTURE OF POLYISOCYANATES CONTAINS AT LEAST 50% BY WEIGHT OF HEXAMETHYLENE DIISOCYANATE/ THEY CAN BE USED WITH ADVANTAGE FOR ALL THE APPLICA- . TIONS WHERE THE RIGID CELLULAR MATERIAL MUST BE EXCELLENT AS REGARDS ITS CAPICITY OF ELONGATION AT VERY LOW TEMPERATURES.

A tire and method of making the same, according to which the tire possesses a radial carcass formed at least within the sidewalls by meridian arcs from pliable cord; the arcs which are spaced circumferentially are constituted from one and the same continuous flexible cord or from a small number of such cords while circumferenial portions extend longitudinally and alternatively on one and on the other side in the beads whereby the circumferential portions are juxtaposed in the form of longitudinal bundles made from strand material which constitutes the bead reinforcements.

833,558. Pipes ; pipe joints. PNEUMATIQUES & CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE KLEBER COLOMBES. Nov. 11, 1957 [Nov. 9, 1956], No. 35069/57. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). A tubular body of rubber-like composition has one end thereof terminating in a radial flange, and a stiffener member 14 embedded in the body comprises a straight tubular section extending over a substantial terminal length of the body, and a thickened flange section integral with the tubular section and extending into the radial flange ; wire reinforcement is embedded in the body and surrounds the member 14 in binding relation therewith. As shown, the pipe is formed by an inner lining 4 of natural or synthetic rubber over which is disposed a web of twilled breaker or textile fabric 5, the latter having arranged thereover two superimposed webs 6, 7 wound in opposite directions and at substantially equal angles to the axis of the pipe and each comprising a number of parallel spaced wires or wire cables retained in assembly by rubber. Over the webs 6, 7 is wound a steel wire or cable 8, and a web 10 similar to the webs 6, 7 is wound over the wire ; a further web 11 of twilled breaker or textile fabric is wound over the web 10, and the pipe is completed by an outer covering of rubber. One or each end of the pipe is provided with a connecting flange, the members 14 being of cast or machined metal. The outwardly projecting flanges of the members are triangular in cross-section, and may, alternatively, be welded to the tubular sections thereof. The webs 6, 7 are folded back over the flanges of the members and held in place by steel wire bindings 17. A pipe connecting collar 2 co-operates with a backing plate 18 to form a vulcanising mould.
