Abstract:
A method and apparatus for predicting video traffic are provided. The method includes extracting the statistical properties of previous Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG)-4 video traffic and predicting the size of a subsequent frame based on the statistical properties of the previous MPEG-4 video traffic. Therefore, it is possible to address such problems associated with traffic bursts as transmission delays or low throughputs and thus to improve the performance of communication and network systems that transmit video traffic.
Abstract:
A method of selecting one or more media transfer terminals to which to transfer each of one or more media composing multimedia by a media transfer terminal determining server is provided. The method includes recognizing a change in a location of a user, recognizing available terminals at the changed location of the user, recognizing attribute information of a multimedia service being currently used by the user, and selecting one or more of the available terminals through which to provide one or more media according to the attribute information.
Abstract:
Disclosed are a method and apparatus for recommending personalized content in an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service environment. The content recommending method includes: acquiring a user's viewing history information regarding broadcasting content; analyzing the user's preference for each content item based on the user's viewing history information; creating a list of recommended content items based on the analysis of the user's preference; and providing the list of recommended content items to the user's terminal. Accordingly, it is possible to recommend personalized content according to users' preference.

Provided is a system and method that may perform various operations on a website according to combinations of buttons on a remote controller. A system for supporting a remote controller may include: a profile storage unit to store a plurality of profiles containing functions of the remote controller and information associated with the functions of the remote controller; a receiver to receive an input signal from the remote controller, and to interpret an event of the input signal based on a profile corresponding to the remote controller; and a presentation unit to access a web server, to transform, to a predetermined behavior, at least one event interpreted by the receiver, and to request the web server for an operation corresponding to the behavior.

A synchronization apparatus and method for synchronizing playback time of a media provided to multiple devices during service transfer and replication process are provided. The content synchronization system for providing a receiving terminal with content of a sending terminal, the content synchronization system includes the sending terminal; the receiving terminal; and a server configured to provide content to the sending terminal and the receiving terminal and to comprise a communication unit configured to communicate the sending terminal and the receiving terminal and to transmit a message and information about time point at which the message is sent, and a content playback time point calculating unit configured to calculate a first content playback start time point of the receiving terminal in an effort to provide the content of the sending terminal that is synchronized with the receiving terminal.

An Open Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) platform is provided. By providing remote medical services to users in the Open IPTV environment using a remote medical service providing apparatus including: an application programming interface (API) calling unit to call, when receiving a request for receiving a remote medical service from a counselor's terminal, an API of an Open Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) platform; and a service provider to provide the remote medical service to a user through the API, it is possible to provide remote medical service operators with environments where they can develop and share various remote medical to services and content.

A channel control apparatus for an Internet protocol television (IPTV) broadcasting service, which selects and pre-joins channels based on data regarding a channel zapping pattern of a user, thereby effectively reducing channel zapping time, and a method of pre-joining channels using the channel control apparatus are provided. The channel control apparatus comprises: a pattern information collection unit configured to collect data regarding a channel zapping pattern of a user for a cycle of a previously set period; a bandwidth management unit configured to set a pre-joining bandwidth, which is an allowable bandwidth for channels to be pre-joined, based on the collected data; a channel selection unit configured to select channels to be pre-joined according to channel preference of a user; and a channel pre-join unit configured to pre-join the channels selected by the channel selection unit within the set pre-joining bandwidth.

Provided are an IPTV service system and a method thereof. The IPTV service system includes: a headend, a set-top box, and a plurality of multicast routers. The headend assigns a multicast group address for each channel and assigns a source address for each PID with respect to an MPEG-TS and packetizes the MPEG-TS into a plurality of packet streams. The set-top box identifies a user-selected channel and the necessary elementary streams in the MPEG-TS for the selected channel, and requests selective reception of only packet streams corresponding to the selected channel and the necessary elementary streams from the plurality of packet streams. The plurality of multicast routers form a multicast path between the headend and the set-top box. Accordingly, while services such as a multi-angle service, a multi-lingual service, a mosaic EPG service, and a personalized EPG service are realized in one multicast control method together with viewing of a general broadcasting channel, efficient use of bandwidth can be achieved.

Provided are a method and system for providing a multicast service in a next-generation network (NGN), which can improve the quality-of- service (QoS) of broadcast services by separating a routing path calculation function and a resource allocation function during the setting of a multicast broadcast channel and enabling a resource control server to perform centralized resource control. In the method and system for providing a multicast service in an NGN, a multicast router calculates a routing path, and a number of multicast routers on the calculated routing path issue a request for resources for a desired multimedia broadcast channel, and a resource control server allocates resources to the multicast routers on the calculated routing path.
