There is disclosed a hydrogen supply unit for internal combustion engine comprising hydrogen separating means, storage means for storage of separated hydrogen, means for storage of dehydrogenation products and means for addition supply of produced hydrogen to a fuel source. The hydrogen separating means for separating produced hydrogen from dehydrogenation products, includes a dehydrogenation reactor for production of hydrogen from a hydrogen supply mass using at least either the hydrogen supply mass or a hydrocarbon fuel as the fuel source, which dehydrogenation reactor on its one face is provided with a hydrogen production section bearing a dehydrogenation catalyst and on its other face is provided with an oxidation reaction section allowing passage of an exhaust from the internal combustion engine and bearing an oxidation catalyst for oxidizing any dehydrogenation products from the hydrogen supply mass to thereby bring about heat generation.

A fuel battery in which a gas communication passage, wide in relation to the thickness of the unit cell, is provided and sufficient gas can be supplied to a generating section even if the fuel battery is made thin. A spacer and a separator are stacked. The spacer has a vent step groove where gas passes and a fitting step groove closed by the separator. The step grooves are formed between a square opening disposed in the center and containing a generating section and vent holes constituting manifolds. The separator has a projecting section projecting toward the fitting step groove and disposed between a gas supply section opposed to the generating section and the vent holes constituting the manifolds. The separator further has a communication groove for communicating with the projecting section along the vent holes and the gas supply section. The vent step groove is connected to the communication groove. Therefore, a gas communication passage for communication between the manifolds and the gas supply section is defined.

A multiple layer fiber filled sound absorber and method of manufacturing the absorber are disclosed. The sound absorber includes an outer housing, a porous or perforated inner tube or housing defining a passageway through which a gas may flow, and two layers of sound absorbing material, such as fiberglass wool, is positioned between the housings. The sound absorbing material adjacent the inner housing is selected to be more heat resistant than the material farther away from the inner housing. The sound absorber is filled with the sound absorbing materials using a direct fill process in which continuous fibers are injected into the sound absorber. In preparation for filling, a partition is positioned between the housings to define two chambers. Each chamber is filled with one of the sound absorbing materials. The partition may then be removed from the sound absorber, or may be left in place (in which case the partition is preferably porous or perforated). The two sound absorbing materials may be filled to different densities. If the partition is removed, the densities will tend to equalize. The direct fill process simplifies and reduces the cost of filling the container and provides a muffler that is uniformly filled and has an improved sound absorbing quality.
