A process for the preparation of a sulphur cement product is disclosed. Sulphur is mixed with a coupling agent and with a particulate inorganic material at a temperature at which sulphur is molten to obtain a molten sulphur cement product, which is solidified. The coupling agent is supplied as a solid composition comprising the coupling agent and at least 10 wt %, based upon the weight of the solid composition, of carrier material selected from one or more of wax, inorganic filler and polymer. The coupling agent is chosen from the group of organosilanes and organotitanates.

The invention provides a bituminous composition comprising a bitumen in an amount ranging from 20 to 90% wt, a carboxylic additive in an amount of from 0.25 to 5% wt, and sulphur in an amount of 5 to 75% wt, all percentages based on the weight of bitumen, carboxylic additive and sulphur, wherein the carboxylic additive is selected from carboxylic acids, carboxylic esters and carboxylic anhydrides. A method for extracting bitumen from an oil sand feed stream comprises at least the steps of: (a) providing an oil sand feed stream; (b) contacting the oil sand feed stream with an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent thereby obtaining a solvent-diluted oil sand slurry; (c) separating the solvent-diluted oil sand slurry, thereby obtaining a solids-depleted stream and a solids-enriched stream; and (d) removing solvent from the solids-enriched stream thereby obtaining a dry product comprising sand and bitumen, wherein the bitumen in the dry product comprises at least 40 wt. % asphaltenes.

The present invention provides a sulphur cement pre- composition, comprising sulphur and at least an organotitanate, which organotitanate is of the general molecular formula (1) or (2): wherein OR1, OR2 and OR5 are independently chosen from acyloxy, phosphato, pyrophosphate, sulfonato and glycoxy; and XO and X′O are independently chosen from alkoxy or neoalkoxy group or XO and X′O together form a glycoxy group. The invention further provides a process for preparing such sulphur cement pre-composition, processes for the preparation of a sulphur cement product, a sulphur cement product and the use of such sulphur cement pre-composition. The invention even further relates to the use of an organotitanate stabilizing agent.
