Abstract: There is provided a method of manufacturing a concrete product. A composition including a slag-based binder, an aggregate, water and an additive selected from the group consisting of calcium chloride, ground eggshells, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium hydroxide, fine calcium carbonate, calcium oxide, borax, ammonium chloride and combinations thereof, is mixed to obtain a concrete mixture. The concrete mixture is formed into a desired shape to obtain a formed concrete, the formed concrete having a first water-to-binder ratio. The formed concrete is dried to obtain a dried concrete having a second water-to-binder ratio less than the first water-to-binder ratio. The concrete mixture is carbon cured to obtain the concrete product.

Abstract: Crumb rubber obtained from recycled tires is subjected to an interlinked substitution process. The process utilizes a reactive component that interferes with sulfur bonds. The resulting treated rubber exhibits properties similar to those of the virgin composite rubber structure prior to being granulated, and is suitable for use in fabricating new tires, engineered rubber articles, and asphalt rubber for use in waterproofing and paving applications.

Abstract: A method of slowing an aircraft overrunning a runway, including covering an area adjacent a runway with irregular foamed glass bodies having aspect ratios of about 1:1.9 and diameters of about 10 mm to about 80 mm to define a bed, pouring liquid cement over the foamed glass bodies such that the cement infiltrates at least through the bed, curing the liquid cement to define a composite material of foamed glass bodies in a cementitious matrix, and crushing at least a portion of the composite material with an oncoming aircraft, slowing the aircraft. The composite material is at least 85 volume percent foamed glass bodies. When pouring the cement, the liquid cement flows over and around the foamed glass bodies. The aggregate bodies crush and break up before slip failure occurs when being overrun by an aircraft. The aggregate bodies intersect to define stacking angles of about 35 degrees. The cementitious matrix has a cementitious surface.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are concrete and asphalt crack filler compounds and methods for utilizing them. According to some embodiments, a method of utilizing one of the compounds can include the steps of (1) obtaining a surface crack filler compound, (2) depositing the surface crack filler compound into a surface crack (e.g., concrete, asphalt, etc.), and (3) depositing water onto the surface crack filler compound to cause the surface crack filler compound to solidify and fill the surface crack. Additionally, and according to some embodiments, the method can further include, prior to depositing the surface crack filler compound into the surface crack: removing debris from the surface crack using at least one of a brush, pressurized air, or pressurized water.

Abstract: The invention relates to a package of performance additives for bitumen or bituminous compositions including an acidic adjuvant and a H2S scavenger chosen from organic or inorganic copper salts. The invention also relates to the use of said H2S scavenger in order to reduce the H2S emissions of bitumen or of a bituminous composition treated with the acidic adjuvant. The invention additionally relates to a process for the preparation of a bituminous composition. The preparation process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain bitumen/crosslinked polymer compositions having better mechanical and dynamic properties in comparison with the bitumen/crosslinked polymer compositions of the prior art, while substantially reducing the releases of hydrogen sulfide (H2S).
