Abstract:
One possible embodiment of the invention could be a hypodermic needle that rotatably connects to a shield comprising a hypodermic needle denoted into a distal needle portion and a proximal needle portion, the distal needle portion's injection aperture continuously connected to the proximal needle portion's connection aperture; a shield that comprises at least a skin pad portion, the proximal needle portion being rotatably held within a portion of the shield in a manner that allows the distal needle portion to be moved between an operative position, wherein the distal needle portion descends downward and away from a bottom of the skin pad portion to hold the needle tip away from the skin pad portion to a stored position that has the needle tip of the distal needle portion placed proximate to the skin pad portion.
Abstract:
A medical device is provided for collecting fluid samples from a patient, such as blood samples. The device includes a needle having a forward sharpened tip that is retracted into the housing of the device after use to prevent exposure to the contaminated needle. The rearward end of the housing is open, forming a socket for receiving a fluid container, such as a vacuum tube, that will receive the fluid sample. A needle retainer releasably retains the needle in the extended position against the rearward bias of a biasing element. After use, the medical professional retracts the needle by pressing an actuation button, allowing the biasing element to displace the needle rearwardly. A guide track guides the needle during retraction, tilting the needle off-axis.

Abstract:
A needle-bearing medical device is provided for inserting a guide wire. After use the needle is shielded to render the contaminated needle safe to prevent inadvertent needle sticks. The device includes a housing and a needle having a sharpened tip. A biasing element biases the needle toward a position in which the sharpened tip is shielded. A connector is provided for attaching a fluid collection device to the guide wire insertion device, if desired. A guide is configured for guiding the guide wire through the port and into the needle. A method is also provided for using the medical device, in which the needle is inserted vascularly into a patient. A fluid collection device is attached to the connector of the device and blood is drawn into the fluid collection device to ensure that the needle is properly positioned within a vein or artery of the patient. A guide wire is then inserted into the patient through the device and the needle is retracted to shield the needle. In one embodiment, the device includes a second port through which the guide wire is inserted while the fluid collection device is attached to the insertion device. The device may also include a shield configured for vascular insertion, which shields the needle after the needle is retracted.
Abstract:
A pre-filled injection device having a retractable needle with a sharpened tip for penetrating the skin of a patient for administering medicinal fluids is provided. The pre-filled injection device of the present invention allows the needle to be manually retracted, thereby reducing the risk of transmission of various pathogens, most notably human immune virus (HIV), to infected personnel, due to an inadvertent needle stick. The present pre-filled injection device has a hollow housing which receives a pre-filled cartridge containing medicinal fluids. A needle retainer initially holds a needle projecting forwardly from the hollow housing. The rear end of the needle pierces the pre-filled cartridge when sufficient pressure is applied to the end of the pre-filled cartridge to advance it in the forward direction. A plunger is slidably displaceable within the housing. A latch member is operable in a latched position to prevent forward movement of the plunger. The latch member is operable in an unlatched position to permit forward movement of the plunger and retract the needle into the hollow housing.
Abstract:
The invention could be a prefabricated modular greenhouse comprising a plurality of sections, each section constructed from a framework further creating an open space that is enclosed by a cover attached to the framework; a first group of sections from the plurality of sections forming a plurality of foldable panels, two or more foldable panels being connected together in a manner to allow the one foldable panel to fold upon the second foldable panel for a compact state; a second group of sections from the plurality of sections are connected together to form at least one non-foldable panel; and the connected non-foldable panels and the at least one foldable panel being removably connected to form an assembled modular greenhouse that allows additional non-foldable panels non-foldable panels or both to be added to assembled modular greenhouse to subsequently change one or more architectural details of the assembled modular greenhouse.
Abstract:
A radio frequency alignment apparatus and method of use, the radio frequency alignment apparatus having an interrogator with a set of carrier-transmit/data-receive coils, each carrier-transmit/data-receive coils from the set carrier-transmit/data-receive coils configured to have adjustable orientation; the interrogator being configured to emit one interrogation signal within an area of alignment through the set of carrier-transmit/data-receive coils; at least one transponder configured to emit a response signal when energized by the one interrogation signal from the interrogator; the interrogator configured to receive the response signal from the at least one transponder that is processed to generate an indication of a relative orientation of the transponder and the interrogator to each other.
