摘要: A monitoring system and method for detecting environmental conditions is provided, the monitoring system including a sensing unit including a plurality of sensors for obtaining data related to environmental conditions, a controller interfaced with the sensing unit for receiving and encoding the data related to environmental conditions into a predetermined format using a base64 encoding scheme, and a communication device for receiving the data in the predetermined format from the controller, forming an e-mail message (which can be further encoded) including instructions on how to decode the email message and transmitting the e-mail message including the data in the predetermined format to at least one predetermined recipient.

摘要: A system (100) and method for detecting contaminants in parcels or other mailings (110). The contaminants, either genuine or hoax, are detected using the system (100) that includes a jogger (140) that shakes the parcels or other mailings (110). The system (100) further comprises a particle sampler (170) that analyzes the air flow created over the parcels (110) while the parcels are shaken. The system (100) and method preferable includes a parcel opening cutter (120) and a ram (148) for compressing during the shaking of the parcels. The air flow is sampled in order to detect whether or not a plurality of opened parcels is suspected of including contaminants such as biological threat material.

摘要: A field portable mass spectrometer system comprising a sample collector and a sample transporter. The sample transporter interfaces with the sample collector to receive sample deposits thereon. The system further comprises a time of flight (TOF) mass spectrometer. The time of flight mass spectrometer has a sealable opening that receives the sample transported via the sample transporter in an extraction region of the mass spectrometer. The system further comprises a control unit that processes a time series output by the mass spectrometer for a received sample and identifies one or more agents contained in the sample.
