Abstract:
An apparatus for rapidly tracking fundamental frequency information in the signal of an electric grid is a cross-coupled phase-lock loop filter (CCPLL) that includes the use of a phase-lock-loop (PLL) apparatus having a plurality individual filters, wherein an input for a first filter in the plurality of individual filters comprises the signal of the electric grid and an output signal from at least a second filter in the plurality of individual filters. A method for using the CCPLL includes applying a signal to the CCPLL and monitoring the output of the CCPLL. Use of the CCPLL may be accomplished or modeled via computer instructions stored on machine readable media.
Abstract:
A protective circuit for a multi-level converter including a DC link capacitor bank includes: an energy absorbing element; switches, wherein at least two of the switches each couple the energy absorbing element to the capacitor bank; and a controller configured to provide control signals to the switches to selectively actuate the switches to enable control of energy dissipation and to enable control of voltage balance on the capacitor bank of the multi-level converter.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus that provide a response to the negative sequence current demands during a disturbance of the grid system connected to power-generating equipment, such as a wind turbine system, provide for tracking components in the grid signal, orienting at least a portion of the signal, and injecting the oriented portion. Controlled injection of negative sequence current provides for extending small-signal control response, and also provides for modifications of the apparent impedance to the grid interconnect of the power conversion equipment.
Abstract:
A power system energy management system with dynamic state estimation (DSE) is disclosed wherein system dynamic states are estimated using SCADA measurements, PMU measurements, signals of controllers, digital recorders, protection devices, and smart electronic devices. The DSE is solved first by Unscented Kalman Filter, and if the Unscented Kalman Filter is failed, weighted lease square is used to solve the DSE. If weighted lease square is failed, integration method is used to calculate the dynamic states. In another aspect, Unscented Kalman Filter, weighted lease square, and integration calculation are applied to solve the DSE by nodal parallel computing for each generation system.

Abstract:
A power system energy management system with security constrained automatic generation control (SCAGC) is disclosed wherein the power generation output and branch power flow are constrained by security limit. A sub-optimization model is used to calculate SCAGC for each control area in parallel. Graph computing is applied to solve the SCAGC by simplex approach in hierarchical parallel and nodal parallel. The SCAGC is solved heuristically first by combining the equal incremental fuel cost ratio and generation shift factor, and if the heuristics do not converge, a simplex method is used to solve the SCAGC.
