Abstract:
An apparatus for holding molten metal in a container having an opening at the bottom thereof comprising an electromagnet for generating a horizontal magnetic field in a lower part of the molten metal in the container and a conductive block for guiding part of eddy currents induced in the molten metal by the generation of the horizontal magnetic field, to flow outside the molten metal.
Abstract:
In a molten metal holding apparatus in which an alternating magnetic flux is generated in the horizontal direction at a lower end portion of a molten metal and the molten metal 7 is held within an upper and lower opening container 6 by an electromagnetic force, solid conductors 8 which are not strong magnetic substances are attached to inner surfaces of both side plates 6x of a portion where the alternating magnetic flux passes through of the upper and lower opening container 6. Further, an apparatus including a circuit 3 to overlay a direct current on an exciting coil 2 or an exciting device 20 to let a direct current magnetic flux act is disclosed.
Abstract:
A twin drum type continuous casting apparatus is provided for continuously feeding molten metal into a cast portion defined by a pair of water cooling drums that are rotated in opposite directions to each other, thereby continuously casting a plate-like cast piece. A thin portion is formed close to an outer circumferential portion of each of opposite end portions, in a width direction, of each of the water cooling drums. A thin annular member having a hot water flow passage therein is formed in between the thin portion and a shaft with a space relative to an end face of each of the water cooling drums.
Abstract:
A steel plate splicing facility includes, a steel plate heating apparatus for retrieving and heating a preceding steel plate and a following steel plate, and a shear-joining apparatus for clamping a tail end portion of the preceding steel plate and a leading end portion of the following steel plate in an overlapping condition by a die and a clamp and shearing them with a punch, such that surfaces of the tail end portion and the leading end portion are newly formed and brought in contact with each other in order to them. The shear-joining apparatus joins the preceding and following steel plates at a temperature equal to or higher than 350° C. and at a percentage clearance c/t equal to or lower than 5%, c/t being defined by c/t=D/(t1+t2)×100 where D represents a distance between the punch and the die, and t1 and t2 represent a thickness of respective steel plates.
Abstract:
A wetted wall type method of humidifying gas with a liquid which is composed, or mainly composed, of water wherein the liquid flows down a heated vertical wall to form a wetted wall and gas flows along the wetted wall in contact with the liquid on the wetted wall to increase the humidity contained in the gas, comprises supplying a greater amount of liquid than the amount of liquid used or evaporated for increasing the humidity, and recirculating the liquid which is not evaporated from an outlet of the wetted wall to a liquid supply portion, the amount of the flowing liquid being adapted to satisfy the following equation:q
Abstract:
A data communication system comprises a plurality of terminal units having different addresses individually and a main control assembly connected to the terminal units by transmission lines for controlling the terminal units. The terminal units include a first group of terminal units and second group of terminal units. The main control assembly controls the first group of terminal units according to a series of instructions for controlling the units in a predetermined sequence. When executing one instruction, the main control assembly performs data communication with only the one specific terminal unit relevant to the instruction. Concomitantly with the communication with the specific terminal unit, the main control assembly scans and communicates with the second group of terminal units only during periods that specified conditions exist. In addition, means are provided for communicating malfunction information between the main control assembly and the terminal units.
Abstract:
A twin-drum continuous casting apparatus for casting a metal sheet (4) by supplying molten metal (3) to a pouring basin formed by a pair of cooling drums (1) rotating in opposite directions, and side gates (2), to cool the molten metal (3) by contact with surfaces of the cooling drums (1), thereby forming a solidified shell. The cooling drum (1) is formed from a drum body (11) having shaft portions at opposite end portions, and a drum sleeve (10) fitted on an outer peripheral portion of the drum body (11). Also, means is provided for preventing various adverse influences due to differences in thermal expansion of constituent members of the drum body (11) during casting. Thus, the reliability of the apparatus is increased, and the quality of casting is improved.
Abstract:
A hot rolling line is constructed by a pair or a plurality of pairs of rolling rolls disposed opposingly on an upper side and on a lower side of a workpiece (1) to be rolled that is pinched in between the rollers. A descaling apparatus (5) has jet flow nozzles disposed so that two jetted flows, being liquid, gas or plasma, are opposing flows so as to collide with the surface of a strip on the upstream side of the rolling rolls and then collide with each other. The jet flow nozzles are disposed, so as to incline in a direction to face each other so that the angle of inclination is 15.degree. to 60.degree. from the horizontal direction of the strip surface.
Abstract:
A roll charged with a heat transfer medium includes a heater which is easy to replace and measures by which the temperature in the axial direction of the roll can be kept uniform during operation. A hollow portion of the roll, which can be opened to the atmosphere, is located at a central axial portion of the roll. The heater is a rod-shaped heater and extends along the central longitudinal axis of the hollow portion. Metal having a low melting point is provided between the heater and an inner peripheral surface of the hollow portion. A heat transfer medium is charged in the hollow portion at the periphery thereof. The heat transfer medium may contact a circumferential part of the heater. In addition, a spiral groove or fin may be provided on an internal surface of the hollow of the portion of the roll body that is charged with the heat transfer medium.
