    摘要: A retractable covering for an architectural opening is reversibly driven through an input assembly, a transmission and an output assembly by a reciprocal operating cord that can be pulled down by an operator and will automatically retract while the covering is held in a predetermined position. While the input assembly is always driven in a first direction, a transmission is shifted between two operative positions through movement of a shift arm depending upon the positioning of the shift arm by the operating cord. The shift arm is pivotal about an axis parallel with a roller for the covering and when the operating cord is pulled straight downwardly, the covering is moved in an upwardly or retracting direction while if the operating cord is pulled downwardly and toward the operator, i.e. away from the architectural opening, the covering is driven in a downwardly or extending direction.

    摘要: A fluorescence detection system includes a photonic band gap structure. An internal surface of the photonic band gap structure defines a core region, and is coated with a film formed of conjugated polymer molecules. The core region is filled with a sample fluid or gas having a plurality of either chemical or biological analytes dispersed therein. An optical source generates excitation light directed to the sample fluid. In response, a binding event between a bacterium or chemical species in the fluid or gas and one or more of the conjugated polymer molecules generates a fluorescent signal whose wavelength falls within the photonic band gap. The fluorescent signal is guided through said core region by resonant reflections, and is guided onto a detector. A plurality of photonic band gap structures may be combined so as to form a biosensor array.

    摘要: Apparatus for machining first and second throws on a crankshaft wherein the throws are displaced outwardly from the central axis of the shaft in angularly spaced relation to one another. The crankshaft is gripped by a collet. The collet is mounted on a spindle at a point offset radially from the spindle axis. The collet is capable of rotating from a first position in which the first throw is on the axis of spindle rotation to a second position in which the second throw is on the axis of spindle rotation. A tool is provided for cutting the throws when the collet is secured in either one of the two positions. A collet receiver is provided to open and close the collet. A housing for the collet and collet receiver is mounted on the spindle. The collet is locked in each of the two rotative positions by interengaging teeth on the collet receiver and on the housing. When the collet receiver is moved relative to the housing, the teeth become disengaged so that the collet is free to rotate. Thereafter by relatively moving the collet and collet receiver, the collet is opened to release the crankshaft.
