摘要: A new molecular based method for early screening of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) of monochorionic twin pregnancies is provided in a rapid and non-invasive manner. Using real time quantitative PCR, this method is intended to quantify the expression of HBB, a new TTTS biomarker, in maternal plasma. In pregnant women with this condition, this biomarker is significantly reduced when compared to non-pregnant women, as well as pregnant women with both single and twin pregnancies without pathology. This method, if applied to all women with monochorionic twin pregnancies, will allow early screening of TTTS, benefiting both the mother and the fetuses, which can more quickly take advantage of an effective treatment with predictable improvement in fetuses' survival.

摘要: Synthetic small molecules from an important class of heterocyclic derivatives and homologs and their use as antifouling agents for protection against marine biofouling. The antifouling compounds disclosed herein are environmentally friendly and are able to reduce marine biofouling without inducing toxic effects to target and non-target species. The claimed antifouling compounds also possess ability to be incorporated as antifouling additives in polymeric formulations. Thus, allowing its further application for the preparation of antifouling polymeric matrices, such as coatings, with no hazard effects for the environment.

摘要: The present invention relates to a device for exercising the pelvic floor muscles in women, which comprises a main component (A), a secondary component (B) and a set of external weights (P).
Component (A) is directly related to pelvic floor muscle contraction exercise. Component (B) allows the evaluation and monitoring of contraction exercises by measuring the displacement of a rod on a graduated ruler. The set of weights (P), with different loads, allows it to impose resistance of different magnitudes on the muscle exercises to be performed, according to the user's needs and objectives.
Thus, this invention falls within the technical field of mechanical functioning devices, with application to the medical area, for the treatment and/or prevention of pathological situations related to the alteration of the muscular function of the pelvic floor region.-

摘要: The invention provides peptides derived from a ubiquitous protein, and nucleic acids encoding such peptides. The invention extends to various uses of these peptides and nucleic acids, for example, as antigens for use in vaccines per se and in the generation of antibodies for use in therapeutic drugs for the prevention, amelioration or treatment of infections caused by sepsis-inducing bacteria. The invention particularly benefits immunocompromised hosts such as neonates, babies, children, women of fertile age, pregnant women, foetuses, the elderly and diabetics.

摘要: The present invention relates to a method for producing hydroxyapatite-bioglass macroporous material, to said materials, and to medical devices thereof.
The method comprises a step of preparation of an aqueous suspension of hydroxyapatite and bioglass with a porogenic agent, and subsequent sintering to achieve a macroporous biomaterial.
The macroporous structure of these materials enhances blood vessels and bone cells migration, allowing bone growth through the interior of the bone substitute, thereby increasing the rate of formation of new bone at the site of implantation. Therefore, these materials are advantageously used to produce medical devices, such as bone grafts that resemble the mineral phase of natural bone showing improved mechanical strength and osteoconductivity.
The biomaterials of the present invention are applicable in the medical area, in particular in bone regeneration and reparation techniques as bone grafts.-

摘要: The present invention relates to a bio-functionalized fibrous structure with a core/shell architecture for partial or total repair of human tendons or ligaments. The architecture based on a core/shell system grants to the fibrous structure a specific physical and mechanical behaviour when it is repeatedly mechanically loaded, as happens with a native tendon or ligament in constant usage in the human body. The core is based on several sub-components, namely braided structures parallelly assembled, which are enclosed by a braided shell. Additionally, a selective bio-functionalization of the two parts of the core/shell structure can be applied in order to selectively improve or avoid the in vivo cell adhesion.
