Abstract:
A wood preservative includes injectable particles comprising one or more sparingly soluble copper salts. The copper-based particles are sufficiently insoluble so as to not be easily removed by leaching but are sufficiently soluble to exhibit toxicity to primary organisms primarily responsible for the decay of the wood. Exemplary particles contain for example copper hydroxide, basic copper carbonate, copper carbonate, basic copper sulfates including particularly tribasic copper sulfate, basic copper nitrates, copper oxychlorides, copper borates, basic copper borates, and mixtures thereof. The particles typically have a size distribution in which at least 50% of particles have a diameter smaller than 0.25 μm, 0.2 μm, or 0.15 μm. At least about 20% and even more than 75% of the weight of the particles may be composed of the substantially crystalline copper salt. Wood or a wood product may be impregnated with copper based particles of the invention.
Abstract:
A method of milling substantially insoluble solid organic biocides to form a micron or sub-micron product having a narrow particle size distribution is presented. The milling involves wet milling of the organic biocide with high density milling media having a diameter between 0.1 mm and 0.8 mm, preferably between 0.2 mm and 0.7 mm, and a density equal to or greater than 3.8 g/cc, preferably greater than 5.5 g/cc, in a ball mill using between about 40% and 80% loading of the mill volume with milling media, and having the organic biocide suspended in an aqueous milling liquid which comprises one or more surface active agents. The milling speed is preferably high, for example from about 1000 rpm to about 4000 rpm. The milled product can be used in foliar applications at a lower effective dosage than prior art formulations, can be used in improved antifouling paint formulations, and can be used in new applications such as the direct injection of solid organic biocide particulates in wood to act as a long lasting wood preservative.
Abstract:
The invention includes a step device for assisting entry into and/or exit from a vehicle such as, for example, high road clearance truck. The step device comprises a generally “W” shaped bar which is separable into said two generally “U” shaped elements for easier packaging, shipping and manipulation of the device. Each of the “U” shaped elements include a cross-bar fixedly attached between, and spanning across, an interior of the generally “U” shaped element. The cross-bars are configured for separately mounting to the vehicle such that the generally “U” shaped elements are independently supported and the generally “U” shaped elements may be adjustable to multiple angles with respect to said vehicle.
Abstract:
A method of dissolving a copper mass includes contacting a copper mass with an oxidant such as air and an aqueous leach liquor containing monoethanolamine (“MEA”) and (HMEA)2CO3, wherein said leach liquor is produced by partially carbonating the MEA, and said leach liquor further contains between 1.9 g/L and 13.7 g/L of dissolved copper, forms a liquid product comprising between 100 and 130 g Cu/L in 48 hours or less.

Abstract:
A wood preservative that contains a copper salt complex and a precipitation inhibitor is provided. The wood preservative may contain copper carbonate, an alkanolamine such as monoethanolamine and precipitation inhibitor such as a phosphonate or ethylene diamine compound. Also provided is a method of using the wood preservative.
Abstract:
The socket releasably couples a packaged integrated circuit to a circuit board. The socket includes a clamp, a latch, and an array interconnect. The clamp is configured to be pivotally coupled to a circuit board. The latch is configured to be coupled to the circuit board and configured to releasably hold the clamp in a predetermined position. The array interconnect configured to be coupled to the printed circuit board. In use the latch releasably holds the hinged clamp in the predetermined position to clamp both a packaged integrated circuit between the clamp and the array interconnect, and the array interconnect between the packaged integrated circuit and the circuit board.
Abstract:
Described are memory systems designed to emphasize differences between memory-cell access times. As a consequence of these access-time variations, data read from different memory cells arrives at some modified output circuitry. The output circuitry sequentially offloads the data in the order of arrival. Data access times are reduced because the output circuitry can begin shifting the first data to arrive before the slower data is ready for capture. Differences between data access times for cells in a given memory array may be emphasized using differently sized sense amplifiers, routing, or both.
Abstract:
A low pass filter having a first mode of operation and a second mode of operation. The low pass filter includes a charging circuit, a capacitor circuit, and low power circuitry coupled to the capacitor circuit and the charging circuit. The capacitor circuit stores a first differential voltage when the low pass filter is operating in the first mode of operation. The capacitor circuit stores a second differential voltage when the low pass filter is operating in the second mode of operation. The second differential voltage is substantially equal to the first differential voltage. The charging circuit may include a charging current source coupled to a current steering circuit. The low pass filter may further include a load circuit coupled to the current steering circuit and the low power circuitry. The low pass filter may be used in a delay locked loop circuit or a phase locked loop circuit.
Abstract:
An improved motorcycle suspension system comprising a substantially straight torsion bar having a first end and a second end; a rear wheel axle support attached rotatably and pivotally to the motorcycle frame; means for holding the first end of the torsion bar fixed to prevent rotation thereof; a multiplying linkage for reversibly converting a substantially vertical motion of the rear wheel axle support caused by irregularities in the surface over which the motorcycle is ridden into a torque applied to the second end of the torsion bar causing the torsion bar to provide a progressively larger opposing torque in reaction to the applied torque and requiring progressively more force to apply an equivalent torque to the torsion bar for progressively larger upward misplacements thus damping the motions of the rear wheel axle support. A tension winder is attached to the torsion bar adjacent to the first end of the torsion bar to provide a means for adjustably twisting the torsion bar controlling thereby the damping of the motions of the rear wheel axle support.
