    摘要: A document reader includes a document feeder conveying a document along a document conveyance path, a first image reader reading an image formed on a first side of the conveyed document, and a second image reader reading an image formed on a second side of the conveyed document. Each of the first and second image readers is of an optical reduction system constituted of a light source, a mirror, a lens and an image sensor. The second image reading means is unified into a single assembly including at least the mirror, the lens and the image sensor, to be thus detachably attached, as a single unit, to the document feeding means. Thus, the document reader can clearly read the images formed on the first and second sides, it requires a short period of time from image reading to image outputting, and its maintenance is readily conducted.

    摘要: In an embodiment of the present invention, a pickup roller R1 makes soft contact to an upper surface of a manuscript by being lowered incrementally in four raising-lowering operations S1 to S4 in which, when an electromagnetic clutch connects, the pickup roller is lowered, while being rotated, to approach the upper surface of the top manuscript and, when the electromagnetic clutch disconnects, the pickup roller, while stopping to rotate, is raised away from the upper surface of the top manuscript by an amount smaller than a lowering amount. Between an electromagnetic clutch-side engaging portion and a pickup roller-side engaging portion of a torque limiter, an elastic member is arranged that suppresses drive power load fluctuation produced by disconnection/connection of the electromagnetic clutch and applies a biasing force in a direction to raise the pickup roller when the electromagnetic clutch disconnects.

    摘要: A document size sensor is disposed on a document feed path at a location between a document tray and a juncture and on the front side in the primary scanning direction perpendicular to a document feed direction. The document size sensor is located between a sheet edge position for B4-size document sheet and a sheet edge position for A 4 -size document sheet, which are situated on the front side in the primary scanning direction. The document size sensor detects A3 - and B 4 -size document sheets but does not detect A 4 - or B5-size document sheet. Based on a detection signal from the document size sensor, judgment is made as to whether a document sheet fed from the document tray is a larger-sized document sheet or a smaller-sized document sheet.

    摘要: A FePt alloy nanoparticle, which is expected to be a promising material used for an ultra-high-density magnetic recording medium of the next generation, is ordered by heat treatment to have high magnetic anisotropy, but there has been a problem that the particles are coalesced with each other and agglomerate during the heat treatment. According to the present invention, each particle of the alloy nanoparticles is covered with a coating such as SiO2, and thereafter a heat treatment for ordering is carried out. In this method, the alloy nanoparticles do not coalesce with each other even if the heat treatment is performed at such a high temperature as to allow all the particles to be fully ordered. After the heat treatment, only the coating is removed using an acid or alkali solution so that it is possible to obtain ordered alloy phase nanoparticles which are ordered and dispersible in various solutions. It is also possible to easily manufacture an ultra-high-density magnetic recording medium by coating surfaces of a substrate with a binder solution in which the particles are dispersed while applying a magnetic field in a predetermined direction.
