Abstract: An optical system including first and second optical elements for guiding light therein. For each optical element, the propagating light enters or exits the optical element through a coupling surface of the optical element. The coupling surfaces of the optical elements face, and align with, each other so that light propagating in one of the optical elements exits the optical element through the coupling surface of the optical element and enters the other optical element through the coupling surface of the other optical element. The coupling surfaces are separated from each other and define a region therebetween. The region is filled with a coolant, the coolant substantially surrounding at least one of the first and second optical elements.

Abstract: An optical network comprises a fiber distribution cable and a terminal assembly. The terminal assembly receives a plurality of optical fibers from the fiber distribution cable and distributes one or more individual fibers to one or more single fiber bare-fiber holders that hold and protect each single fiber prepared and configured for splicing via an individual splicing element. The splicing element includes an alignment mechanism having a base plate and a clamp plate. At least one of the base plate and clamp plate is formed from a silica material and at least one of the base plate and clamp plate includes an alignment groove or channel configured to receive the first and second optical fibers in an end-to-end manner. The splice element also comprises an optical adhesive disposed in at least a portion of the alignment groove, wherein the optical adhesive is curable via actinic radiation.

Abstract: An optical fiber connector includes a housing configured to mate with a receptacle, a collar body that includes a fiber stub and a mechanical splice device, a backbone to retain the collar body within the housing, and a boot. The backbone includes at least one guide channel to facilitate wrapping strength members of an optical fiber cable around the backbone and a cable jacket clamping portion to clamp the cable jacket of the cable. The boot actuates the cable jacket clamping portion of the backbone upon attachment to the backbone.

The visible light photoinitiating system includes at least one of a cationic photoinitiator and a sensitizer and the nanoparticle filler comprises a first nanoparticle having a first nominal size and a second nanoparticle having a second size. The adhesive composition has a refractive index between 1.44 and 1.47 and a dn/dT of less than −2E−4 when cured.

Abstract: A system having a concealed communications element like a telecommunication antenna is described. More specifically, The system has a communications element that is concealed by a highly reflective multilayer polymer optical film 200. The first element of the multilayer polymer optical film is a core layer 202 that is made up of a multilayer optical stack. The multilayer optical stack of core layer 202 includes two alternating polymeric layers. The multilayer polymer optical film may optionally also include a protective layer 204 (for example, a hardcoat or an over laminate) that is positioned between the viewer and the core layer. The protective layer 204 may include one or more UV absorbers to aid in durability of the multilayer polymer optical film against UV-degradation. Multilayer polymer optical film 200 may optionally also include an adhesive layer 208 that is positioned between the core layer 202 and a surface onto which the multilayer polymer optical film is to be adhered.

Abstract: An optical fiber connection system for connecting a plurality optical fibers is described. The connection system comprises a first bare fiber holder comprising a first splice element and a second bare fiber holder comprising a second splice element. Each of the first and second splice elements comprises a splice body having a first end and a second end and a plurality of alternating alignment and clamping channels formed in a top surface of splice body that extend from the first end to the second end of the splice body. When the first and second bare fiber holders are mated, at least a portion of the alignment channels of the first spice element overlap a portion of the clamping channels in the second splice element and at least a portion of the clamping channels of the first splice element overlap a portion of the alignment channels of the second splice element to hold the first and second optical fibers in end to end alignment.

Abstract: An optical fiber connection system (100) for connecting a plurality of optical fibers is described.
