Abstract:
A handle for an electrical tool includes a cylindrical body having a pair of flanges, a thread between the pair of flanges, and a bore which extends axially through the cylindrical body and radially into communication with the thread. One end of the cylindrical body is coupled to the tool and the other end of the cylindrical body supports a cap, the coupling connected to the body and the cap having larger diameters than the flanges. The flanges rotatably support a longitudinally slotted cylinder whose ends, respectively, abut the coupling and the cap. Thus, the threaded part of the cylindrical body, the slotted cylinder, and the flanges define a cylindrical space which is suitable for storing an electrical cord. Operatively, an electrical cord extends from the coupling, through the bore, over the thread, and through the slot. Rotation of the slotted cylinder with respect to the cylindrical body in one direction causes the cord to be paid out; and rotation in the opposite direction causes the cord to be taken into the cylindrical space and onto the thread, thereby being stored.

Abstract:
A valve adapted for use with an internal combustion engine comprising a body having a passage therethrough and a valve element including a valve head and a valve stem. The valve element is mounted for movement on the body so that the valve head can open and close the passage. The valve stem projects through a bore in the body and has an insurance member mounted thereon which is engageable with an abutment to limit the maximum amount of opening of the valve. A peripheral wall substantially circumscribes the insurance member when the latter engages the abutment to prevent removal of the insurance member. The valve is biased toward a closed position by a spring which extends between the body and a valve spring retainer. The valve spring retainer is mounted on the valve stem by a split ring which is received in a counterbore in the valve spring retainer.
Abstract:
A package comprising an article having a sheet of heat shrinkable material wrapped therearound and a method for producing same. The sheet of heat shrinkable material has at least one opening. A thickened ridge has been formed by uniformly heating the material along the periphery of each of the openings. The thickened ridge or ribbed edge defines a reinforcement which prevents tearing of the material used in the wrapping process due to handling or subsequent heat shrinking of the heat shrinkable material about the article. In a specific embodiment of this invention, the reinforced hole is formed in a web of heat shrinkable material by cutting a shaped punching in the web and completely removing the shaped punching from the web of material. In another embodiment of the invention, the method provides a heated punch member having a cutting edge and a flexible base portion with an opening disposed therein. The web of material is fed between the flexible base portion and the heated punch member. The punch member is thrust against the flexible base portion to cut through the web thereby removing a punching to form a hole therein and to substantially simultaneously provide a uniform heating along the periphery of the hole. The heat shrinkable material may be selected from the group consisting of oriented polypropylene and non-oriented polypropylene.
Abstract:
An airplane adapted to be flown as a trainer and secured by linkages and a spring to a roller moving on a track ring attached to a derrick whereby the airplane will not crash and will automatically descend in proper manner if trouble arises during flight.
Abstract:
A mechanical grab is described that has two telescopic members, with one attached to a single hoist line and the other having jaw elements mounted thereon. Linkage interconnects the one member with the jaw elements to automatically open and close the jaw elements as the two telescopic members move in relation to each other when the mechanical grab is lowered and raised from the ground. The mechanical grab has a provision for preventing the jaw elements from closing every other time the mechanical grab is lowered to the ground to prevent the jaws from closing on a just released load and for maintaining the jaws open until the mechanical grab is again lowered to the ground.
