    摘要: An automatic transmission includes a fluid torque converter and a first and second gear transmission mechanisn, each of which has two coaxial drive members--a power input member and a power output member--and is selectable to any one of several speed radios. Rotational power is output from the fluid torque converter to the power input member of the first gear transmission mechanism. The torque converter, and the first gear transmission mechanism including the power input and output members thereof are all coaxial on a first axis. The power input and output members of the second gear transmission mechanism rotate around a second axis parallel to the first axis, and a first lay shaft element is coupled to this power input member and extends along this second axis out from one side of the second gear transmission mechanism and is rotationally coupled to the power output member of the first gear transmission mechanism by a rotational power transfer mechanism, while a second lay shaft element is coupled to the power output member of the second gear transmission mechanism and extends along this second axis out from the other side of the second gear transmission mechanism and is fixedly coupled to a power output gear wheel.

    摘要: A torque converter includes a coaxially mounted pump impeller, turbine, and stator, each of which includes an outer shell, an inner shell, and vanes extending between the outer shell and the inner shell having edges which define an inlet and outlet. The pump impeller outlet is proximate to the turbine inlet, the turbine outlet is proximate to the stator inlet, and the stator outlet is proximate to the pump impeller inlet. The outer and inner shells cooperate to define outer and inner toroidal surfaces, which together define a hollow toroidal hydraulic fluid circulation path. The ratio between the axial extent and the radical extent of a section of the outer toroidal surface is less than approximately 0.9. The axial distance between the general axial position of the edges of the stator vanes which define the stator inlet and the axial position of the edge of the stator inner shell in the direction of the stator inlet is substantially greater than zero, and the stator vanes which define the stator inlet extend more towards the direction of the turbine outlet than does the edge of the stator inner shell in the direction of the stator inlet.

    摘要: In a torque transmission apparatus of an automatic transmission for an automotive vehicle, a direct coupling clutch is provided in parallel to a fluid type torque converter. The direct coupling clutch comprises; a first clutch element connected to an input shaft or an output shaft; a first circular coupling element engaging a second clutch element disposed in an opposing relation to the first clutch element, in a manner to effect the relative movement to the second clutch element in the axial direction alone thereof; second and third circular coupling elements coupled to each other at a spacing from each other, with the first circular coupling element interposed therebetween, and adapted to rotate relative to the first circular coupling element through a given angle; and compression coil springs retained in the first circular coupling element and engaging the second and third circular coupling elements, thereby absorbing shock due to the relative rotation of the first circular coupling element to the second and third circular coupling elements; the compression coil springs having a surface hardness nearly equal to the surface hardness of the compression-coil-spring retaining portions of the first circular element and the engaging portions of the second and third circular elements.

    摘要: An automatic transmission includes a gear transmission mechanism with several friction engaging mechanisms. Selective supply of actuating pressure to these mechanisms selectively provides different speed stages from the transmission, including a directly connected speed stage and an overdrive speed stage. A driver operated manual selector valve can be set to several forward ranges including a "D" range, and produces a lower range pressure when any forward range except for "D" range is selected thereon. A kickdown pressure is produced when the accelerator pedal of the vehicle is depressed beyond a predetermined amount. An electrically operated pressure control device produces a holddown pressure signal according to operating conditions of the vehicle. A direct/overdrive shift valve controls supply of pressure to the friction mechanisms, so as to engage the overdrive speed stage, or the directly coupled speed stage, according to a balance relationship between a throttle pressure and a governor pressure, and, when override pressure is supplied to an override port of this direct/overdrive shift valve, it is prevented from providing the overdrive speed stage. A downshift pressure selector valve supplies pressure to the override port when and only when there is present at least one of the lower range pressure, the kickdown pressure, and the holddown pressure signal.
