There is provided acrylic fiber which permits production of carbon fiber with a high tensile strength and a high tensile modulus by pyrolysis for a shorter time. Furthermore, there is provided a process for production, by wet spinning, of precursor fiber which does not show filament breakage for a long period of time and has only a small amount of fuzz.
