摘要: A surgical apparatus and methods for severing and welding tissue, in particular blood vessels. The apparatus includes an elongated shaft having a pair of relatively movable jaws at a distal end thereof. A first heating element on one of the jaws is adapted to heat up to a first temperature and form a welded region within the tissue, while a second heating element on one of the jaws is adapted to heat up to a second temperature and sever the tissue within the welded region. The first and second heating elements may be provided on the same or opposite jaws. A control handle provided on the proximal end of the elongated shaft includes controls for opening and closing the jaws, and may include an actuator for sending current through the first and second heating elements. The first and second heating elements may be electrically connected in series, and the first heating element may be bifurcated such that it conducts about one half of the current as the second heating element. A force-limiting mechanism provided either within the control handle, in the elongated shaft, or at the jaws limits the pressure applied to the tissue by the jaws to ensure that the tissue is severed and the ends effectively welded within a short amount of time.

摘要: Ablation devices and associated methods are provided for use in ablating a target tissue, such as a cystic lesion. The ablation apparatus includes an integral or connected elongate probe and a deployable structure that is axially slidable along the outer surface of the electrode. The electrode can be disposed at the probe's distal end region for ablating tissue when the electrode(s) are activated to create an ablated margin of tissue at least partially surrounding the target tissue. Suction can be applied with a vacuum source operably connected to the proximal end region of the deployable structure. A target tissue, such as a cystic lesion, can be drawn against the surface of the electrical probe.

摘要: An implantable electrode array for providing a plurality of electrodes in communication with a target is described. A flexible, elastic support holds the electrodes in contact with the target tissue. A large number of electrodes can be provided and selectively activated/deactivated for specific functions. These functions include sensing activity of the target tissue and electrical therapy delivery. One technique to control the electrodes is conductive lines or filaments in the support with individual addressing of each electrode to activate/deactivate an individual electrode for a specific function.

摘要: A device and method for accessing a pericardial space of the heart includes a shaft having a cavity at a distal end, a suction lumen terminating in a distal port within the cavity and a hollow needle having a distal tip extending into the cavity. The cavity may be a recess in the shaft into which the distal tip of the needle fixedly protrudes. In other embodiments, the cavity is formed by an inflatable member positioned at the distal end of the shaft and the needle is slidable relative to the shaft. Suction is applied at the cavity to draw a pericardial bleb. The needle pierces the pericardial bleb for accessing the pericardial space and also facilitates delivery of payloads into the pericardial space.

摘要: A system for synchronizing application of treatment signals with a cardiac rhythm is provided. The system includes a memory that receives and stores a synchronization signal indicating that a predetermined phase such as R-wave of a cardiac rhythm of a patient has started. A synchronization module analyzes whether the stored synchronization signal is erroneous and if so, prevents a medical treatment device from applying a treatment energy signal such as an IRE pulse to a patient to take into account an irregular heart beat and noise in the synchronization signal in order to maximize safety of the patient.
