A method of producing a pneumatic vehicle tire, the beads of which can be mounted on the radially inner periphery of a rim, and are pivotably relative to the bead cores. A carcass along with the adjacent rubber layers, and the tire beads, with their pull and compression resistant cores, are combined on a drum to form an essentially cylindrical blank. What will later be the insides of the tire initially face radially outwardly, and the interfaces of the initially radially outwardly extending beads form an essentially right angle with the cylindrical surface of the blank. At least the bead regions of the tire blank are preliminarily vulcanized, whereupon the blank is turned in and has imparted thereto a toroidal shape. The blank is then provided with a tread strip, and is final-vulcanized.

A tread configuration for pneumatic vehicle tires, especially for spare tires. A number of recesses are arranged in succession and next to each other in the circumferential direction of the tire. Transverse ribs and substantially circumferential ribs separate the recesses from one another and have a width which is approximately 1/4 to 3/4 of the circumferential dimension of the recesses. The radially outwardly located peripheral surface of the tire is subdivided into several segments. Within each of the segments, the circumferential dimension of the recesses and of the transverse ribs is constant, and the circumferential dimension of the recesses and of the transverse ribs is different in successive segments. The recesses are of such a cross-sectional shape or outline that at least one boundary line thereof is formed by an edge of a transverse rib. At least some of the circumferential ribs extend at an angle to the circumferential direction of the tire.

In order to obtain tires having a long service life and tire beads with a good sealing quality, it is proposed that the tire be vulcanized in essentially the proper contour for operation. Two, respectively radially segmented, bead-forming rings that have a variable diameter and can be displaced axially are provided. For the purpose of vulcanizing the sealing surfaces disposed in the interior of the tire so that these surfaces will rest on the rim in an airtight manner, the bead-forming rings are introduced, in a radially retracted state, into the interior of the tire blank, whereby at least one of the tire beads is ovally deformed. The segments of the molding rings are subsequenty extended to an annular radial diameter whereby the molding surface portions of the molding rings can be moved axially outwardly over the tire beads without deforming the latter. The molding rings are then moved axially outwardly over the tire beads and then retracted to their smallest diameter, and are locked into position, whereupon the tire blank is vulcanized in a mold.

To permit simple mounting of the tire, there is proposed that, in the position of the mounted tire, the distance from the center of a core cross-section to the bead edge facing the seating surface is greater than the distance to the axially inner bead edge, so that the core ring is eccentrically mounted in this region of the bead.
