    摘要: A new and improved sealed joint or system is disclosed for securing together the opposite ends of plastic strapping, which is encircled around the package or bale, in order to ensure that the opposite ends of the plastic strapping do not exhibit any slipping or relative movement with respect to each other whereby the predeterminedly formed size or shape of the package or bale is able to be preserved or maintained. In accordance with various different embodiments of the present invention, different arrangements of the sealed joint, with respect to the opposite ends of the plastic strapping, are structured whereby enhanced frictional contact is effectively developed between the sealed joint and the opposite ends of the plastic strapping, or between the opposite ends of the plastic strapping per se, so as to in fact reduce the amount of slipperiness effectively defined between the opposite ends of the plastic strapping. In accordance with a still further embodiment of the present invention, the opposite ends of the plastic strapping are effectively locked within a tubular sleeve member, by means of a chain-link type insert, such that the opposite ends of the plastic strapping are positionally fixed with respect to each other.

    摘要: A zipper strip for a reclosable bag or package includes a male interlocking profile and a female interlocking profile. The male interlocking profile includes a male interlocking member and a male web coextruded therewith. In like manner, the female interlocking profile includes a female interlocking member and a female web. The male interlocking member snappingly engages into the female interlocking member to join the profiles to one another. One of the male and female webs is wider than the other in at least one of two directions from the male and female interlocking members, the greater width being represented by at least one flange extending widthwise beyond the other web. The zipper strip is designed to be attached to thermoplastic sheet material by sealing the at least one flange thereto without sealing the male and female webs to each other. Methods for securing the zipper strip to thermoplastic sheet material, and for making packages on a horizontal form-fill-and-seal machine, are also disclosed.

    摘要: An apparatus and high speed process for heating and stretching a film having a bridle mechanism comprising a first heated roll and a second heated roll. The film is stretched as the film is transferred from the first heated roll to the second heated roll which rotates at a speed greater than the speed at which the first heated roll rotates. The film is fed into the bridle mechanism at a rate of about 1,500 fpm to about 2,500 fpm wherein it is stretched to a length that is up to about 450% greater than its initial, pre-stretched length. The increased contact between the large diameter heated rolls and the film and the short draw gap between the two heated rolls result in a highly stretched film having minimal neck-in.

    摘要: An improved mechanism for controlling a fastener-driving tool comprises a workpiece-contacting element, a tool-controlling element movable conjointly with the workpiece-contacting element over a limited range, a spool defining having a threaded connection with the workpiece-contacting element and a swivel connection with the tool-controlling element and having axial ribs alternating with axial ribs, and a spool-restraining element movable along a radial line between a spool-restraining position and a spool-releasing position and biased toward the spool-restraining position. The spool-restraining member is arranged to restrain the spool against rotating at the swivel and threaded connections by projecting into any given one of the grooves, between the fibs nearest to the given one of the grooves, when the workpiece-contacting element is moved inwardly from an outer portion of the limited range but not when the workpiece-contacting element is within the outer portion of the limited range.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for producing an oriented plastic strap having a predetermined desired thickness and flatness characteristics for use in connection with the strapping of packages or the like, is disclosed. A sheet workpiece is conducted into a nip defined between a pair of opposed milling and stretching rollers wherein one of the rollers is rotated at a lineal surface velocity which is greater than the lineal surface velocity of the other roller, and the rollers are rotated in opposite directions. One of the rollers effectively brakes or retards one of the surfaces of the sheet workpiece while the other one of the rollers effectively accelerates the other one of the surfaces of the sheet workpiece as the workpiece passes through the nip defined between the rollers whereby the workpiece is simultaneously milled and stretched. The workpiece is heated along its side portions disposed inwardly from the side edge portions so as to eliminate concavities and bump transitional points which normally tend to form at and within the vicinity of the side portions, and in addition, the side edge portions of the sheet workpiece are also heated so as to cooperate with the heated, axially inward side portions so as to advantageously control the degree of flatness of the sheet workpiece across the width thereof after the same has been milled and stretched.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for producing an oriented plastic strap having a predetermined desired thickness for use in connection with the strapping of packages or the like, is disclosed. A sheet workpiece is conducted into a nip defined between a pair of milling and stretching rollers wherein one of the rollers is rotated at a lineal surface velocity which is greater than the lineal surface velocity of the other roller, and the rollers are rotated in opposite directions. Additional heating is provided in connection with the surface of the sheet workpiece which is exposed to the ambient air prior to entry of the workpiece into the nip defined between the pair of rollers such that both surfaces will have similar temperature levels so as to exhibit similar density properties, and still further, the edge portions of the sheet workpiece are also heated so as to advantageously control the degree of flatness of the sheet material or workpiece across the width thereof. The flatness quality of the sheet workpiece can also be achieved through means of specially contoured milling rollers defining the zero gap assembly nip, or by means of specially contoured extrusion dies, whereby the edge portions are rendered thinner as compared to the central portion of the sheet workpiece such that upon milling and stretching of the workpiece, which operations tend to thicken the edge portions of the sheet workpiece, the edge portions will exhibit thickness dimensions commensurate with the thickness dimension of the central portion of the sheet workpiece.

    摘要: A flexible continuous reclosable plastic zipper having one strip with a groove and another strip with a rib for interlocking insertion therein, a hot melt plastic peel seal in the base of the groove with the rib bonded to the peel seal material to initially join the rib and groove and with the rib and groove breaking apart away from the bonding material at the first opening and thereafter releasably interlocking in a normal manner with the peel seal material remaining within the groove. The groove is made sufficiently deep so that with initial interlocking, the rib must penetrate to the base of the groove deeper than normal operation to lock to the peel seal. When broken from the peel seal, the rib inserts sufficiently for the jaws of the groove to snap over the rib and then locks without interference from the peel seal which is relatively rigid and nonadhesive after the rib is first broken away.
