Abstract: Several embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to medical visualization systems that comprise combinations of disposable and reusable components, such as catheters, functional handles, hubs, optical devices, etc. Other embodiments of the present invention are generally directed to features and aspects of an in-vivo visualization system that comprises an endoscope having a working channel through which a catheter having viewing capabilities is routed. the catheter may obtain viewing capabilities by being constructed as a vision catheter or by having a fiberscope or other viewing device selectively routed through one of its channels. The catheter is preferably of the steerable type so that the distal end of the catheter may be steered from its proximal end as it is advanced with the body. A suitable use for the in-vivo visualization system includes but is not limited to diagnosis and/or treatment of the duodenum, and particularly the biliary tree.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a medical device includes a first arm portion, a second arm portion and a base portion. The first arm portion has an inner surface and an outer surface. The second arm portion has a tissue piercing portion at a distal end, an inner surface and an outer surface. The base portion extends between the first arm portion and the second arm portion. A distance between the inner surface of the first arm portion and the inner surface of the second arm portion defines a depth of penetration into a tissue of a patient.

Abstract: An articulating mechanism for use in a medical device, such as an endoscope or a catheter, includes a series of stacked links disposed adjacent to one another and movable with respect to each other. Each link includes a front face tapered to a pair of pivot points and a rear face defining a wedge shaped recess for receiving the pivot points of the adjacent link. Pull-wires provide tension and hold the staked links together while also allowing for controlled bending of the distal portion by movement of one or more of the pull-wires.

Abstract: In some embodiments, the present invention discloses a suturing device including an elongate member having a head portion, a tail portion and a needle receiving portion provided on the head portion. The needle receiving portion has a recess that is configured to receive a suture and hold it within the recess. The needle receiving portion is fixed with respect to an opening defined at the head portion. The suturing device further includes a needle having a retracted state and a deployed state. The needle includes a needle notch at a distal portion of the needle. The needle is configured to enter the recess of the needle receiving portion and receive the suture within the needle notch.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a ureteral stent includes an elongate member having a first portion and a second portion, which is coupled to the first portion. The first portion of the elongate member is configured to be disposed within a kidney of a patient. The second portion of the elongate member, which has a sidewall that defines a lumen, is configured to deliver fluid from a first location of the sidewall of the second portion to a second location of the sidewall of the second portion via capillary action. The second portion of the elongate member is configured to be disposed within at least one of a bladder and a ureter of the patient.
