    摘要: A means for selecting one of a plurality of predetermined amounts of the lost-motion lash in the valve gear of an engine while the engine is running. A latchable mechanism in the valve gear is movable from a first position providing predetermined normal low level lash to a second position providing a predetermined substantially greater lash for reducing the effective lift of the cam and shortening of the valve event. A unique cam profile provides a period of linear lift of substantially constant low velocity, both during lash take-up on valve opening to prevent high velocity clash of valve gear components and during valve closing to prevent high velocity seating of the valve.

    摘要: A hydraulic lash adjuster which is mounted in a rocker arm of an internal combustion engine. The plunger of the lash adjuster has a socket formed therein which receives a cylindrical member having a ball end in contact with the socket and a flat surface engageable with a poppet valve of the engine. The ball and socket connection is lubricated by engine oil flowing from the leakdown clearance space between the plunger and the lash adjuster body through a passage which intersects the socket surface. The plunger and the cylindrical member are retained within the body by a single, dish-shaped member which is positioned over the body.

    摘要: A hydraulic lash adjusting tappet for an internal combustion engine of the type supplying oil to a passage communicating with the tappet-receiving guide bore in the engine. The tappet has a roller follower on the cam end and a registration means adjacent the opposite end for orienting the roller with respect to the engine cam. The tappet body has at least one localized collector recess disposed longitudinally coincident and peripherally spaced with the registration means. In one embodiment the registration comprises a pair of oppositely disposed flats and the tappet has a pair of diametrically opposed collector recesses interconnected by a peripheral groove spaced longitudinally therefrom to by-pass the flats and provide sufficient surface for leakage control. An oil inlet hole is formed in one of the collector recesses for supplying the lash adjuster valve in the tappet. The localized recess is aligned with the engine supply passage by the orientation of the registration surface.

    摘要: The manifold cross-over control valve includes a powdered metal mounting base (10) which is mounted in a bore in a cross-over passage of an intake manifold (B). A frame (40) which extends into the cross-over passage from the mounting base seals against passage around its periphery and defines an exhaust gas aperture (42) therethrough. A pin (70) mechanically fastens the frame to the mounting base. A butterfly plate (80) is mounted on rotatable shaft (90) adjacent the frame for selectively opening and closing the exhaust gas aperture. The pin engages the butterfly plate in its fully open position to limit its rotational movement. A pneumatic actuator (D) is mounted by a bracket (30) to the mounting base for selectively rotating the shaft to control the passage of exhaust gases through the cross-over control valve.

A mesh rebound member extends over the open center area and is secured around its entire periphery to the tube on the upper surface of the tube member. The attaching/securing elements include a plurality of side-by-side loop elements which extend toward the open center area of the tube from the upper surface thereof and a plurality of side-by-side loop elements which extend from the periphery of the rebound member. A first cord extends through the loop members, alternately between alternate tube loop members and rebound element loop members. A second cord member extends through the loop members through which the first cord does not extend. The cord members are tightened, moving the loop members together endwise.

    摘要: A valve selector including a telescoping spring capsule subassembly having a dual retainer ring arrangement for limiting the maximum extended length thereof. A cup-shaped spring retaining member has an internal groove formed near its rim and a cup-shaped spring receiving member has an external groove formed near its outer open end. The spring retaining member is partially received over the spring receiving member with the external groove axially aligned over the internal groove. A compression spring is captured between the opposed bottom surfaces of the retainer members. An inner retaining ring is received in the external groove and an outer retaining ring is received in the internal groove. The outer ring has an internal diameter sized less than the outer diameter of the inner retaining ring for providing a radial overlap condition. The maximum spacing of the spring receiving and spring retaining members is limited by abutment of adjacent axial faces of the inner and outer retaining rings.
